No matter what, I always write at night and always listen to loud music (this helps me to basically mute all my thoughts that could distract me from the writing). Requests are, of course, much easier because you have the main plot (stepbrother, teacher...) I always think about the smut first, and then I figure out how you even get to that point (stepbrother= smut in his room- the parents are gone, you're alone with him, for some reason you go into his room- then the smut happens) or (kidnapping= smut in the place you're being held- how you got kidnapped- how your Stockholm syndrome began...), and I feel like that's basically 80 percent of the whole story. I am sure you noticed that I always focus on explaining how you met wilbur or how you get into the situation you're in for way too long, but then my endings are super quick and short. This is a huge flaw of mine that my teacher tried to fix for over 4 years (clearly didn't work out, haha)
