In my headcanon they Abandoned him either as a baby or as a child. Hence why he has major abandonment issues

I was definitely gonna say Vox probably didn't have parents or something along that sort. Poor baby, I'm thinking like I need to look into when he was born again but considering he comes from an old time period imagine it being something like neglect. Parents were too busy to actually play and be around him and if that was the case I can also see Vox being sent to different relatives so they could deal with him. Hm imagine this as well, Vox was abandoned because of something with his face.

I've heard people say that his form contributed to how he died but consider it being something else like Vox was born with some sort of deformity, he grew up quite alone because of it.. grew a deep bond with TV because it gave him comfort like those kids that sit cross legged super close to the TV and they can't seem to pull away, something like that.

He got into the wrong crowd, seen some things and became a product of his environment which is probably why he'd later lead himself into working with Valentino because old habits can and do die hard.

I can totally roll with the idea of him being abandoned from a young age, like in reality it had nothing to do with Vox but he was made into believing so. I feel like if that's somewhat the case not only does it explain him working as he does in Hell, why he has those abandonment issues, and why in the face of the public he's more than willing to put on a fake smile and act like it's all okay.

Most people in Hell are dumb so he's not worried about it.

What was the scene or episode that hooked you?

Okay, this is tough... because from the first episode I knew I loved it. Hmmm... I feel like it was 1.03 that REALLY hooked me though. The whole “I’m not actually a prostitute but you couldn't afford me if I was” “I’d never want you” “Bitch” *punch* “if you could have anything” yeah, that hooked me. The absolute best 15 mins in television history, ever! (Straight outta fanfiction).

2. What’s your favourite episode?

See above. Though really, they’re all amazing. Really any ep with lots of Alex/Gene moments (yeah, okay, so I’m back to saying all of them).

3.Who’s your favourite character?

Alex Drake. I think she is just #goals, honestly. Smart, confident, pretty, and just never afraid to call people out when needed. I mean, I’ve thought a lot about Gene as a character and part of me thinks I should want her more with someone who is more caring and kind and.... I don’t know, modern(?). But he is perfect for her because she can handle him. Not only does she balance him out but she makes him better and as Shaz says, Alex just manages to take all their insults and use it to spur her on. Back to the point, Alex is incredible. 

14. What’s your favourite Quattro moment?

Ummm... honestly, I feel like my favourite Quattro moments aren’t from the show but from fanfics.... which I probably shouldn’t link.

Oh! When Alex steals the Quattro and fills it with garbage from then French place (1.06?) and Gene gets super angry about it and they squabble like children and we all sit there just waiting for them to make out. 

15. What’s your favourite quote/a quote you use regularly?

Another toughie. I feel like this is two separate questions. 

Favourite quote: SPOILERS for 3.08. I think Shaz’s scream and “I haven’t had a life”. It’s like getting punched in the stomach every time.

Quote I use regularly: “It’s all shit, isn’t it?” Because it’s very applicable to everyday life. But also it’s a bit of a favourite line because it’s classic Galex, you know. Because at the end of an awful day, Gene comes to see Alex, she is the one he can share how he’s feeling with. It’s another moment of them being so married (a real classic S2 Galex feel).

16. What’s your favourite Ashes song?

Pretty easy for me because I’m not big on the 80′s music so True Spandau Ballet. Took it from a meh song to a yes song. I’d say Wonderwall but yeah, any happy feelings from that song were just crushed. Alternatively here’s some fanvids I love that I now associate with Ashes

19. Which Alex Drake 80s look do you prefer?

Season 1. It’s just a way more fun look. I always feel like she could break out dancing. mindibindi I know you’ve commented before on how by S3, Alex is much more skeletal and sallow where S1 she’s as peppy as her hair is curly. I won’t lie, I’ve adopted a couple of her S1 staples, the sunnies, the high heel boots teamed with the black pants, loose tops, though not quite as much.    

24. What’s your favourite moment of your favourite pairing?

So many! Really any time it’s just the two of them talking (or yelling at each other), preferable at the pub. Probably the 3.07 date up until the knock on the door (Up yours Keats). I mean, they’re so tender and sweet and nervous and just ready to move to the next level. We need a script rewrite where Luigi sees Keats and tackles him because he’s as keen for Galex as the rest of us.

28.Have you watched the Ashes cast in other shows?

I’ve seen Keeley in a few other things:

-The Durrells (watched it for her, loved her)

4. Who’s you least favourite character?

Keats, because he’s evil, but more than that, because he’s just not fun to watch. And he becomes so central out of nowhere. I do see that he was sort of necessary, but it still hurts my heart.

7. Who’s your favourite recurring character?

I know loads of people have already said Jackie Queen, but it’s gonna have to be her. a. She fulfils the old old-flame-highlights-new-flame-via-inciting-mild-jealousy-and-also-just-calling-it-out role which is always fun. I love Alex being like…

and b. She has FABULOUS 80s hair in the manner of Baby in Dirty Dancing (I know that’s set in the 60s but let’s all be honest, she has 80s hair, not that I’m complaining, nothing is imperfect about that film). And I just generally like how Alex reacts to her. It’s really fun. Keeley Hawes is so funny.

And she also just fits into the crew nicely. Like, you’d be happy if she hung around for a few more eps. I like her relationship to Gene AND her relationship to Alex. It’s interesting seeing her interact with both of them. Actually I do also really appreciate Summers. He has a fantastic voice. Is Viv a recurring character or main cast? Not sure. But I’m gonna mention him anyway because I love him so. Because he is so good and wise but also for this look…

11. What’s your favourite Chris moment?

I think he has the funniest moments in the show so there are many to choose from. But off the top of my head - ‘So when they launder money they don’t actually wash it?… oh, oh, they do’.

16. What’s your favourite Ashes song?

So many. I really like the gentle, fun, bubblegummy romance of Over You in this scene.

I think it expresses really well the fact that they’ve worked together a bit now and as well as the blatant sexual tension, they’re actually starting to develop a bit of affection for each other. And also, Alex has expressed her aggression to him already that day by punching him and is rather impressed that he took it fairly resonably (because he knows she’s right really) and so she’s left with just the affection. She’s gotten to know him more and understands that when he says he’ll stamp on her pretty little head if she tells anyone he’s sometimes lonely, he’s being self aware about his own vulnerability and also paying her a veiled compliment. What he says is technically a threat but she understands that actually he’s being really sweet in more than one way. And she’s also starting to think, why can’t I just have fun in this world if it’s not real, and actually, I think I’d rather like to have fun with you. I think this is the first time she actually considers him romantically and the music fits that by being akin to that of a high school movie. And it’s just all so adorable. It’s possible I’ve thought about this too much. I love whenever they use Ashes to Ashes. Also love I’m in Love with a German Film Star at this moment.

Obviously both times they use Vienna. And although I hate what’s actually happening, I think the use of Every Breath You Take and and Only You at the ends of series 3 eps is really classily done. The fact that they’re both love songs but are used in moments where G and A separation is becoming more pronounced is an interesting and powerful juxtaposition which makes me want to both punch the air and weep.

I almost forgot True! When I first watched that scene and she turned the tape on I was like, oh, this? How cheesy. But then, first off, I obviously haven’t listened to it that much before because I hadn’t realised what a huge pause there is before the first words and I was like, oh, they’re going into scored music, but then the words started and that pause in the song really added to the tension of the scene. So then I was like, oh no actually this is awesome! Because not only is it a lovely song with words that fit the moment really well, but it’s SUCH a famous song and so present in lots of our lives. Bringing along all that emotion that we have attached to it makes it even more powerful. It serves to remind us of all the backstory that has led to this moment, the fact that she’s in the 80s, and that we’re reliving all of our collective recent British history. That’s why I also like that it’s such a particularly British classic (I think most/all of the music is British. Am I right about that?). And also, True is one of those 80s songs that is so iconically 80s that you normally hear it accompanied by really overtly 80s visuals, or like, at office parties and weddings, not stripped down like in this scene where on screen there’s actually not much that’s overtly 80s. Alex is dressed very simply and their clothes are both black and white (I mean that’s still a bit 80s, but you know what I mean, no one’s wearing a side pony or hot pink).

So it really makes you listen to the song and remember how genuinely beautiful and delicate it is actually. GOD IT’S SUCH A GREAT SCENE. If it were in a film (or in a US show), they’d be talking about this scene as one of the greatest moments on film I think. Also LOVE In the Air Tonight accompanying Gene leaving the office and Alex following him in Series 2 ep 2. Love how it starts with intimate close ups on him on the phone all noiry, and then the walk out is obviously devastating. I also love Same Old Scene at the end of the first ep. It’s like, a bit melancholy but also fun and bright which is exactly right because she’s found she’s still trapped in this world and might be for longer than she thought, but she’s realising it’s not all that bad and it just gives you that end-of-the-episode-everything-back-to-normal feeling but with that added noiry novelty of us and her not really understanding what ‘normal’ is in this case cos we don’t really know what’s going on.  So it’s like thrilling but also fun and comforting. I realise you just asked for one song and not a breakdown of entire musical moments, but I feel very strongly about the music in A2A and LOM.

21. Name a scene that made you sad.

A lot of the last episode is too sad for me to rewatch. And a lot of the preceding episodes have that seeping in. The last scene obviously. And the Every Breath You Take scene is sad as it’s the beginning of the end for A and G.

You bloody know who my least favourite character is, you big ole meanie. Don’t make me say it. I hate him, I HATE him…..! It’s fucking Keats, okay? Grrr..

Hm, I would’ve said Caroline Price but I already agreed with you on that so let’s see…. I actually don’t love Molly, she annoys me. I like the clown, oddly, or like spotting him. Does Jacqui Queen count as recurring…since she was on LoM?

11. What’s your favourite Chris moment?

Well, it’s too easy to say his striptease, right?, but that’s def up there. Actually, I think Marshall is an amazing and very funny actor. One of my fave things about his portrayal is just watching him react to the other characters. Like after Alex gives her little speech at Viv’s birthday and he’s just like: “What the…?”. Oh, and the money laundering bit, of course :)

18. What’s your favourite Ashes finale (1, 2 or 3)?

I wish I could be less of a baby and say 3 but *sobbing* ii-ittss soo-ooo saa-aad. They’re all faves for different reasons. 1, because it’s Alex realising how lovely Gene is and kind of resigning herself to being in his world. 2, because of all the angry heat between Gene and Alex and that fucking epic twist. 3, because of the perfection of that bittersweet explanation, because of….everything. It is a fantastic finale. But it would be better if we got A PROPER BLOODY SNOG, YOU SADISTIC BASTARDS!!
