For this.  To read words he never thought to hear from this man.  

There was little mystery as to whom the letter was from, but perhaps he was merely placing the face he wanted on words he wished to hear from him.  Maybe what he held was another joke from her.  

Fingers slid over the parchment.  How many years had he lost?  Lost in the hopes of living so he could return to them.  The men he loved, the brothers he served with, the security of their friendships.  There was only one of them left.  He didn’t count himself.  A shadow of what he had been, a mockery with this witch that sat inside him and shared his flesh.  Asharic pushed to his feet.  He folded the letter neatly and tucked it into a drawer in his bedroom.  Joke or not, he knew he’d need that bit of sunshine in the future.  

“Ready for your next performance?”
