just wanna say, most collateral damage stuff is documented like this, really rough sketches and ideas that are all over the place. Heres some pages where I was working on how violet got where she is. Not sure how much I'm keeping, but I do really like the idea that she killed pets specifically as a teen. She liked watching people mourn and miss them, the emotional violence being just as satisfying as the physical violence for her.
And here's some Asanti/Elias sketches - I always knew that I wanted Asanti's anti-magic to be talisman based, but like, not magic circles/cryptic writing or anything, just making marks with intention. Semi-recently I had the thought that she should make handmade crafts and have a collection of paint markers and scrap paper as her main mediums. Maybe she has an online shop that supplements income and helps her find clients.

Elias doesn’t talk a lot day-to-day. He’s most comfortable in places that have a very thick boundary between planes (his + Asanti’s house, courtesy of Asanti) or very thin ones (anywhere Matt is). He perceives both planes at once, which leads to a lot of sensory problems and why he’s so spacey. Bandaid adhesive is grounding and better than alternatives.
I’ve also decided since I draw him with ghost fish so often, that it’s how his brain interprets the “flow” of magic around him. It’s not limited to that form, but it’s what he sees most often. I like the metaphor because it’s not like he can completely control anything without spells as magic has a mind/will of its own, but he can influence environmental stuff to some degree, like playing with fish in a river.
