"An apprentice of the Greenhorne Royal Guard. Has a strong sense of justice, but rather reckless with his blade."
An Imp from Karkaton, Darren was in Greenhorne for training when darkness shrouded the kingdom. The moment the Dark Lord came and went, the young warrior set off on his own in pursuit of the big bad evil villain.
Along the way, he crossed paths with a certain thief and mage, who convinced Darren to join their little party as they all had the same goal. Of course, defeating the Dark Lord would be a piece of cake now that there's three of them, but Darren doesn't quite agree with the leader's own reasons for pursuing the villainous being...
Decided to do @.luminarysterling/schelofthesea's ArtTopia prompts! I actually did the old Inktopia prompts waaaay back when (What do you mean that was already almost 5 years ago???😭) I decided to stick with the Casting prompts because I thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce my OCs a bit, though my lore and other extra details for them are still a big work in progress...
I'm hoping to do all of the days one way or another, and they'll all be drawn in this simple style 👀

This is gonna be a ramble (basically just some of my headcanons and backstory I made for funsies), so be prepared, cause I have a lot to say
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we ever got any concrete establishment of time in this game.
By that I mean, we don't get told when the Dark Lord attacked, when the Dark Curse came to be, when the Great Sage encountered them, etc. And seeing as this is a magic world, it's kind of hard to try and compare it with a real world time period. (At first I would have said it's more reminiscent of the time around the Middle Ages, but then stuff like modern scientists and New Lumos exist)
But I'm not bringing this up because I have a problem with that; it's the opposite, in fact. Because this gives me a lot of room to interpret my own string of events into this game. Because I think the Dark Lord has already been terrorizing Miitopia for centuries. Just not always in their current form.
The Dark Curse took their own face hundreds of years ago, and since then, has always picked up the next best victim to choose as a body, before either wrecking them beyond use, or abandoning them for the next best vessel. That also means monsters have been roaming around, and people have been getting their faces stolen for generations now, but it's not like anyone could do anything about it, so they had to learn to live with it.
But then why has the Dark Lord not taken over yet?
Because there were always people that could do something about it. For one, there are the hundreds of other adventurers (Tanks, Warriors, Vampires, etc.) that are strewn across Miitopia, and they must obviously be able to fend off monsters to an extent, at least. And second, the Great Sage exists.
Now, I don't think it was always the same Sage. Their magic does allow them to live longer than most, but not that long. Our Sage is not older than 120 at most, I'd say. I think, it's basically just another job. Not one that you can pick yourself, though, but something you can learn, if you get mentored by the previous Great Sage. And with every Sage, their wisdom and power grew, and they could fight against the Dark Lord more efficiently.
But they also knew, that they wouldn't be able to take them down. Which is where we arrive at my last point:
I don't think that the protagonist is the first Hero.
There isn't a prophecy that chose them. The Heroes showed they were willing to help and stand up to the Dark Lord, and that's how they earned their title.
But a lack of prophecy also means a lack of guaranteed success. If their victory was set in stone, the Dark Lord would focus more on killing them, than toying with and teasing them. But they know that the Hero is defeatable. And they have defeated them, before.
Our Great Sage alone has had almost a dozen Heroes in their lifetime, some they even chose themselves. But before the protag, none of them succeeded.
They never saw them as disposable, though. To them, every Hero had worth, they were still their own, living being. But they had to watch every last one of them die.
They don't enjoy choosing Heroes to send out to battle, but they know that they have no other choice.
Now, that the Dark Lord is defeated, and The Reborn is under their care, however, the souls can rest, and the Sage can finally take their time to properly grieve. Just maybe not right in front of their new student, of course.
The Reborn's future in Miitopia would of course also be very interesting to try and piece together, but this is all that I have planned on writing for this post.
"A young mage pausing his studies in the name of something much bigger than he or his best friend have realized."
One wouldn’t expect a star student to be an accomplice to a rather grave theft, but Ferdinand proved otherwise. Though not involved in the act itself, it was through his magical aid that the theft of the Sages’ Charm went as smoothly as it did.
While Ferdinand and his partner only intended to study the charm with their own eyes, the two were suddenly chosen by the Guardian Spirit to defeat the new threat looming over Miitopia. The quest would be overwhelming, but the break from the monotony, not to mention being able to experience all of this with his dearest friend, would make it all the worthwhile.
And yet, for some reason it felt… lonely, even when he was by her side.
Wish I had the time to polish this more like with my previous pieces 😔
Ferdinand was my original main hero back in my first playthroughs on the 3DS version! He’s now just the first teammate ever in my newer playthroughs on the Switch, but in my story, he and a certain thief are a main hero duo!
It’s nice getting to draw him more often again hehe
"The face-snatching menace wreaking havoc all over Miitopia. She sees the terror she spreads as nothing more than mere antics and tomfoolery."
Only referring to herself as the Dark Lord, this being had popped up out of nowhere one day and immediately started causing problems for everyone. First stealing the old castle in Karkaton for herself and now stealing people's faces? Is there anything that she wouldn't steal at all!?
To the poor Miitopians, it seemed like the Dark Lord is only causing trouble just for the sake of it, but behind all of the pranks she pulls, could there perhaps be an actual goal behind her actions?
I was planning to revamp my Dark Lord's design at some point but that never happened before I decided to do ArtTopia 💔 I'll see if I am already satisfied with what I came up with for today or if I'll change it up later down the line...
For now, I just settled with a few adjustments to my really old design for her, mainly that she gets a big goofy crown :]
Also her actual name's in the tags, I wonder if it'll come up again later 🤔
"The 'simple traveler' who stole a great treasure. This thief knew little what this little crime would lead her to..."
Though a rogue by night, Ruth was more of a scholar. Her interests lie more in archeology - in the tales behind the ruins of an ancient building, or what the artifacts changed by the passage of time had to say, among many more things. Her fascination of the stories all of these tell make her want to seek more, to fit in all the puzzle pieces and get the complete picture.
The prospect of discovering something no one else had before was something Ruth wanted to achieve, if she did that, she’d be real famous! But all of her efforts so far were in vain. At least, until one day… (cont.)
There was something about the Sages’ Charm that piqued her interest, but who wouldn’t be intrigued? It was a treasure displayed for all of Miitopia to see, a treasure that protected each and every one of its citizens from darkness. The great spirit within would emerge in the time of need and choose a hero worthy of the charm’s power.
The prophecy was not what pulled Ruth in, rather, it was the mystery behind the charm. She could never find out how or when it came to be, and any questions she tried to ask were turned down for whatever reason.
So if the normal way of inquiry didn’t work, Ruth might as well try to figure out the answers herself, even if she has to execute an elaborate crime to do so. But she did not know what this would all lead her to…
(end)
That “tidbit” ended up longer than expected 😭
Well well, it's Miss Mischief herself! I've been looking forward to drawing her the most in all honesty ahaha
I tried to draw her in a way so that I can show a shooting star motif here, I hope people could get what I tried to go for
And speaking of stars, I think Lonely Rolling Star from the Katamari Damacy OST fits her in a way like, in the sense that the song is being sung about her if you're familiar with the lyrics and all (wish I could play more of it outside of that one game trial...)

“A rather lax king, but with the peace being upheld, why wouldn’t he be?”
The current King Dorian is the well-meaning, hedonistic monarch of the Kingdom of Greenhorne. He somehow always finds the time to throw parties at his castle every other day or so, and grand festivals every other week, organized with the help of his Royal Guard.
His “Royal Guard” spend more of their time on preparing these outrageous festivals over any actual guarding, and though it got tedious, with the very handsome pay from the King, they all find the work worth it for now. After all, the King would’ve been thrown out and replaced with another, democratically-elected monarch a looong time ago if none of them liked him at all…
I don’t draw older people that often and it really shows O_O
That aside I don’t really have much else to say about him at the moment? I’m still figuring out how the Greenhorne plot will play out in my verse 😔 (and if I’ll go with it but a little to the left or go for a new story entirely)
With that said I did have a lot of fun drawing this out!!
“An accomplished healer unsure about where to go next, in finding her way somewhere or finding a way forward in life.”
As the time continued to pass, Lulu found herself reflecting on her decisions. Was she happy with where she is right now? She did not dislike the path she chose to walk at all, she’d have no problem continuing down that path if anything. But something felt… missing, like an empty space in the room yet to be occupied by furniture. Just what was it?
The odd feeling tugged at her with every passing day. No matter what she did, it wouldn’t go away. Next thing she knew, she had escaped her duties.
Contemplating what she just did, Lulu found herself in an unexpected encounter with the Prince of Neksdor and a despondent-looking Cat. She decided to join up and lend her aid, with deep hopes that the adventure would finally offer the answers she seeks.
A lot of my Miitopia characters, like the teammates and cast weren’t really as developed or given much focus on as my ‘mains’ way back when, and Lulu (or previous versions of her at least) was one of them 😔 So if her current lore tidbit is a bit more vague than usual, that’s because I only got a potential idea for her a while ago and now I’m just kind of making stuff up on the spot… (Making stuff up on the spot is my favorite pastime when it comes to my OCs…)
Now though, I’ll try to flesh them all out as much as I can!!!
"The easygoing but wise leader of the Sages. Loved by all for helping those in need."
No one knows where Moonstone came from, but the mage's wit had more than exceeded the Sages' expectations, letting her rise through the ranks in a breeze. Some may even compare her knowledge on magic to an Elder's, a compliment as frequent as the sight of a comet. Many sages before her were satyrs like she was, and they all exhibited great ability, but even they were overshadowed by what Moonstone was capable of doing.
Moonstone was not confounded by the theft of the charm — It took her not a second to figure out the masterminds of this little crime. But she decided to let the rascals be, instead choosing to put a close eye on them by her lonesome.
For years, she waited for a chance, and now it presented itself in these two unlikely heroes. This chance may be her only one, and she can't let it go to waste.
I wish I could've done more for this day, I was really looking forward to draw my sage but then I got super sick 😭
