I joined UMD’s Hysterics to stream “Welcome to Buteaupia” on Friday, October 2, 2020. I found that the film, which inspired me to begin writing comedy again, related to my studies in three ways. Firstly, as a film it relates to my film studies major, although I did not find the directing particularly unique. Secondly, the way Buteau’s personal experiences shape her stand up relate to what we have learned about expressing ourselves through art in Arts Scholars. Lastly, Buteau’s discussion of activism and her experiences as a woman of color relate to my journalism major as part of her set was educational. 

On Wednesday, January 29, 2020 my roommate Lauren and I went to watch Leyla McCalla perform live during the Concert in Close Quarters at the CCC. We came right at 7pm when the event started and I ate some pizza as everyone listened to Leyla play. I loved her songs in French because I think it is a beautiful language. I was also amazed at how easily she switched between different instruments: you could truly see her musical talent. I wish there was more of a conversation between listeners and performer, but it was still a fun and unique experience.

Tonight I saw the Thesis concert here at the Clarice. The show consisted of two different dances featuring different choreographers. I personally did not really like the first one. It was very confusing and many of the motions and plot of the dance did not flow and did not make sense. The second performance was amazing. It was about family and remember those you have lost. This was the last performance but it was amazing.
