the violent crack of atoms / where all light comes in. ( @artisticallydcneâ )
   âA question, captain.â
For a while now they had reverted back to only their initial form of communication: seeking each otherâs touch in tactics used by the enemy, picturing each otherâs faces examining holomaps and trying to discern where they might take their forces next. He had debated calling her many times, but ultimately decided it would be unnecessary. Until now. Recent developments meant he required more information which his side either did not have or would not share with him.
It had been a risk; since Atollon, he knew she would either not answer him, or answer with the full force of her wrath. Fortunately, she had answered, and that particular subject had not yet arisen in the conversation. He could only hope it remained undiscussed, but knew that was a rather unlikely outcome. Rather than dwell on it, he fixed his gaze on her hologram, enjoying the chance to once again admire the green of her eyes. âA Star Destroyer was recently destroyed in an explosion in the Tonnis sector, along with what appears to have been a civilian freighter. I canât help but think your crew had something to do with it.â A pause; a narrowing of his eyes. âDid they?â
she still doesnât know why she answered his call. itâs not like tracing the origins of the incoming transmission would do her any good ââââ theyâre not ready to attack anyone in full force, not yet. the battle is still relegated to tactical operations, circling each other and striking in quick, precise movements. if hera were inclined towards sentimentality and romantic metaphors and notions, sheâd think she and thrawn had been DANCING. as it is, she feels like this war has erupted something personal and binding between them.Â
her arms cross over her chest, her hip popped slightly, one brow raising as she studies him. she can still see him before her on atollon, demanding surrender; she still feels peeled apart under his gaze, like heâs slid a hand between her third and fourth rib and is dragging fingertips over the exposed organ of her heart. â the TONNIS SECTOR ? â she asks, feigning surprise, shifting her arms to cup one elbow, her hand catching her chin between thumb and forefinger. sheâs the picture of a woman lost in thought, and she tilts her head for a moment before glancing back at him through her lashes. a blink, and then something between a smile and the baring of her teeth. â tell me, admiral, â hera says, â if, and itâs a big if, if my crew had something to do with the destruction of a star destroyer, do you really think there wouldnât have been a giant lit up message in the stars ? something like ââââ oh, i donât know . . . a starbird ? â careful, hera. careful. â besides, â she continues, waving her hand, â you know as well as i do the rebellion does not attack civilian freighters. â she watches him, waiting for some sort of sign of a reaction. heâs not the only one capable of FISHING.
