Volcanic and Artificial Ash Effects – Popular Options Available
Volcanic and artificial ash effects are more popular than ever, with an insatiable demand for high quality and professional special effects continuing to be seen.
There is a great deal of difference between artificial ash effects sold by professional distributors, and those found in retail stores. In this article, we look at some of the current popular choices.
Volcanic fake ash
Professional and high quality volcanic fake ash is a leading option, with paper ash being one of the more popular choices made by professionals. As it is a natural product, and one that is biodegradable, it is much simpler and easier to use than other alternatives. Often used in either exterior or interior ash sets, they have a coarse feel to them, making them very realistic.
Non-toxic smoke effects
Smoke can be found in an incredible number of projects and is another of the popular options for completing the realistic look of professional fake ash special effects, particularly for explosions.
Smoke effects can be produced in a number of different ways, with the non-toxic smoke FX being one of the safest and most effective methods. In addition to black, there are five different colours that are available for this particular product, including white, yellow, orange, red, purple and blue. These can be bought in packs of five and last three to four minutes, producing 2,500 cubic feet of smoke.
Smoke grenades
Another way to use smoke effects is through the use of smoke grenades. These are generally split into the two categories of high output, or regular.
High output smoke grenades can quickly release an impressive 78,000 cubic feet of black smoke for just under a minute. This creates a dense amount of smoke, and with it being a military grade smoke grenade, caution is required when using.
Regular smoke grenades operate in a similar way, with a pull-wire for operating the device. The effects are less than the high output smoke grenade, as to be expected, though they still produce dense smoke of 20,000 cubic feet. This is done over a longer period of two minutes, or just under, with a steadier smoke output.
Summing up
There are a number of fake ash and artificial ash effects available for professional special effects, with the items above being some of the more popular choices.
