Biggest issue I have with trying to draw Tangled fanart.
Lips and Noses.
I learned to draw with anime, focusing on anime, so I never bothered with lips. And noses I always preferred the dot or obtuse angle because I just don't like the look of noses lol.

Ohhhh so THAT'S how they get figures in mechanical perspective.
I knew it was with boxes, and splitting up the rectangle. But I didn't know the method of how to get the exact thirds measurement.
That's useful!
This guys tutorials are helping to shake some of the rust.
He has lessons on various amount of things. But some of his tricks for aligning the eyes, help my own list of proportion measurements I keep mentally.
And a lot of his other tips and tricks are really good.
Aaron Blaise is still my favorite go-to tutorials for anatomy, drawing loosely, and capturing life. But for visual learners who like diagrams and mental lists, this guy's a good complementary.
Then there's also Mitch, who has gotten very popular on Twitter these days. He's good for simplifying things down. Tyler Edlin for environments. And forever Mclelun for anime art.
Simplifying Eugene's head down to a elongated octagon rather than sphere+paper method seems to be helping a lot better for proportions.
I have spent so much money on reference pictures for just, poses, materials, different figure types etc. but I think from now on I'm just going to use the animation method of just video-recording me acting out the character and finding a screenshot from that because SO FAR its yeilded results that I am so so so happy with in my art. This might be because reference pictures are from someone else's point of view, someone else's artistic vision, that it really limits yourself into what specifically you can do. I also felt like it pigeon hold me into not being able to do anything without a reference on hand. Which might always be the case as a self taught artist.... But the video-recording has opened up a new avenue of creative control over my art that I didn't expect to not have. Composition, story-telling, and more organic positioning have really been the biggest take aways from doing this.
Not to say that the references I have brought are useless now, more that they can just be used as study's or practices rather than be incorperated into the creative process of a piece I make.
