Many say studying abroad is amazing, it's life changing, yes, but they forget to tell of the journey they had to travel for it to be life changing. It's isn't a dramatic-oh my god-change. No. It is a change in the inside. Going to the Arrigunaga beach and talking to a friend I've made, I realized that studying abroad isn't necessarily about traveling and seeing more of the world, but it is about being open to change. Being open to culture shock. Being open to being afraid and being frustrated. And most of all knowing homesickness happens. To some it's like a wave of the ocean that comes and goes, to others it's like being immersed in the ocean, but what matters is learning to appreciate home and appreciate the new land we stand on. Our past experiences leave footprints-some leave a lasting mark and some are slowly forgotten with time, but either way they provoke a ripple of change. I am where I need to be. I've met amazing people. I've seen new lands and experienced new things. But this is only the beginning for me. I still have many sands to travel and I hope that some of these footprints that have been made this semester stay longer with me.
