Finally my magnolia branches opened their marshmallowy flowers. They are pretty pretty in a bud stage as well. Go and get a branch! And those hellebores. They are over two weeks old, fantastic value for money. I tried three different techniques to get hellebores drinking - they have a bad reputation for refusing to drink and wilting away too quickly. 1. Submerged them completely in a bucket of cold water overnight, since they drink well through their flowers. 2. Did 1cm slits all the way down to their stems. 3. Dipped the stems in boiling water for about 60 seconds and recut the stems. After these methods, placed all of them to a vase full of cold water, submerged up to their necks. The clear winner is: boiling water with over two week vase life! . Viikon odotuksen jälkeen magnoliat avasivat vaahtokarkkimaiset kukkansa. Oksat ovat tosi kauniita nuppuvaiheessakin. Suosittelen hakemaan oman oksan kaupasta! Ja nuo jouluruusut. Nuo ovat yli kahden viikon ikäisiä, rahalle vastinetta. Kokeilin kolmea eri tekniikkaa saadakseni jouluruusut juomaan vettä - ne ovat hankalan kukan maineessa, kieltäytyvät juomasta ja kuihtuvat päivässä pois. 1. Upotin ne kokonaan kylmään veteen yön yli, ne juovat kukistaan hyvin, varteen tulee melkein aina ilmalukko. 2. Tein 1cm viiltoja varsiin, koko varren matkalle. 3. Dippasin varrenpäät kiehuvaan veteen noin 60 sekunniksi ja leikkasi heti uuden imupinnan. Näiden tekniikkojen jälkeen kukat juomaan yön yli kaulaan asti upotettuna kylmään veteen.
