āWhen is he coming!?ā Lena asked. Her face pressed against the window, smudging the window with her hot breath against the coldness that the winter brought. Luckily, this year it wasnāt as cold, but it was still pretty chill that one must require a jacket to wear outside. She only pulled away, bringing her favorite stuff animal with her, to look at her mother, who was preparing for the ultimate Christmas dinner. She was cooking and baking all day as well as the previous day as well. Both the kids lend a helping hand as best as they can, even if they werenāt much help.
The entire house was decorated with Christmas decoration. So beautiful. Not like the one in downtown where there were wonderful lights to look at. Lena hoped that her promise was kept and she could be taken to see those lights, even if she couldnāt hop and bounce like she usually does. After the car accident, she was injured and had to be have a close eye on. A proper recovery that is. Even now, she couldnāt move too much without causing pain, but that didnāt stop her from smiling and being excited for the day. Everyone would be gathered for the day, being all joyful.Ā
Lena turned back to the window, still looking for her uncle. Looking for the familiar car that would pull up and the familiar face showing up. One that brighten up her day. Unfortunately, she could feel a silvery of disappointment flooding her at the mere thought of not being able to run outside to her uncle and greeting him with a tackle hug.Ā
āHe will be here soon,ā her mother hummed, loudly. The sound of pots moving around to be arranged properly and making room on the counter of the kitchen.
For who knows how long, she had sat there, watching outside and waiting. While her mother continued to prepare and double checked that everything was okay, her brother would come up and try to entertain her. Not for long though. Her attention kept pulling away from Jackson to the outside world, filled with gray clouds and neighbors with their families and friends coming over. Although the Pearce family would have invited their own friends if they werenāt busy themselves, they would happy to have themselves as well.Ā
Each car that passed tugged at Lenaās heart, hoping that her uncle would show up. Then, finally, the familiar car showed up. Forgetting that she couldnāt move too much, Lena moved on her feet. The pain halting her in her tracks before she shook it off and slowly moved to the door. The worried looks being given by her brother and her mother were ignored. Instead, pure joy spread across her face. Even before the car could be locked and the knock could be heard, the door was flown open. Lena moved to hug her uncle.Ā

āPresent time! Present time!ā Lena exclaimed. She placed her fork on her empty plate, stained by the food she just finished. With Jackson all finished and everyone else about to finish up, the only thing on Lenaās mind is present. So, she moved to her feet, ready to take her plate to the sink. Even if she couldnāt reach the sink, she could place her dishes on the edge of the counter. Before she could do anything with her plate, her mother came, taking the plate away. The bright smile on her lips sent excitement up and down Lenaās body. This pushed her to go for the present, taking slow steps towards the massive Christmas tree they got that year.
