Bucky Barnes has more than enough reasons to hold a grudge against Hydra. It is quite simple, when you create a dangerous weapon and allow it to witness your destruction, of course it will act out. It will be small at first. A couple 'government' agents are tragically killed. The house of a wealthy businessman catches fire. Small things. The Winter Soldier is almost fooled into believing that his small act of revenge were working. After all, wouldn't it be perfect if even Hydra could not track its own perfect weapon?
But they did. And finally, after decades of building itself up from destruction in World War II, Hydra's severed head was replaced with two. After years of sticking their own agents into influential places all throughout SHIELD, and in extent Armour University, Hydra takes a single night to launch a mass ambush on SHIELD.
Within a night, hundred of agents are killed or pronounced 'missing,' scores of high-ranking SHIELD members are found dead, and while the newspapers are calling it a simple inside job that is now under control, Hydra agents take the reigns of SHIELD, putting their own agenda down.
As for the school, Hydra knows how much use the school will be if they take it. So many young minds, powerful abilities, all pooled in one place. The same night, students awaken to fires in buildings, and scores of agents storming the campus. At first things will look dismal, but most occupants of the school would gladly run head first into a fight before they are captured by the enemy. The school fights for its life, Bucky Barnes is rendered useless by Hydra for the night, SHIELD can offer no reinforcements, but Hydra greatly underestimated the perseverance of a bunch of students put through shit before. By some miracle, the school defends itself from HYDRA.
Tagging a HYDRA agent with a tracker, Kitty Pryde is able to trace their activities to the primary base. With SHIELD and the school lost, people are scattered throughout the city, some - those most involved with SHIELD - in hiding. To combat HYDRA's attack and over-throwing of SHIELD, Kitty pulls together a team to try and bring down the organization - or at least their roots in New York, for good.
Following the desecration of the HYDRA base, many students and professors slip away again. The school cannot be rebuilt under SHIELD's name and SHIELD as a whole is in ruins. After the assault, Kitty tells everyone to reconcile at Xavier's mansion and with the aid and funding of Charles Xavier, the mansion is put through renovations to create both a new organisation and new school.
U.N.I.T.E.D (Unit for National and International Threat Evasion and Defense) and their school known as Unity Academy unites humans, terrestrials, mutants, and mutates alike with no agenda; there is no push for the students to join teams of any sort or be filtered into professional spy programs. But for those that wish to join groups and utilise their talents and serve U.N.I.T.E.D there are specialised Talent Divisions for those with specific interests or capabilities. Medical Unit, Sorcery Division, Technology Committee, Espionage Division are just a few to name alongside newly formed teams which will merge the talent Divisions together in order to complete missions and help make the world a safer place.
With Kitty Pryde and Bran Driscoll as the Headmasters of the school and new additions being made to the faculty, the staff and students of Unity Academy are ready to take on even bigger challenges than before. You thought Armour University and SHIELD were a force to be reckoned with? Well, you've seen nothing yet.
