How do you love a human?
You watch him on the wind blasted hills somewhere over an ocean. somewhere somewhere somewhere. when you call out his name he doesn’t turn back, just gestures you forward. His back is bent and his fingers are curled around the rocks. When you reach him he’s already climbed higher.

He winks at you before he lets go and for a terrible moment you think he’ll hit the rocks, you think his head will crack and red will splatter the rocks. he flies past you instead, and you hear a splash as he hits the water. You turn around and for a moment you forget that he’s not supposed to know, you forget everything. You scream his name and when he looks up he laughs.

“Scared?” he taunts, and your heart hammers. yes, yes, yes. You say nothing and he rolls over in the water. There is no blood, but there has been blood in the past. You think of your sister, hair splayed around her blood streaked face. The boy in the water is still looking up at you.

Later that night you take out your records and you sort through every single one. Every friend you’ve ever had, every lover you’ve ever kissed. Immortals meet so many people, you think, and we love so few. He pushes open the door an laughs at the documents in your hands. You try to shove them away but he plucks them from your fingers before you can. He looks at your face, and he looks at the pictures. You close your eyes.

You don’t. One day they’ll find out, or die, and you’ll be alone again.

How does an immortal love?
Too much or not at all. One day you know that your blood will stain the rocks, but it will be of your own choice. You are not as fragile as humans. You will not die unless someone kills you.
