Arkipelago Champagne Flutes designed by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala c. 1980′s
Timo Sarpaneva was a Finnish artist and designer, best known for his elegant glasswork. His Arkipelago champagne flutes were used in Star Trek: The Next Generation as set dressing for certain crew quarters. To my knowledge, these are the only Iittala objects used in TNG, while Iittala glassware was very commonly used in Voyager and Enterprise.

The kakampink libs having no sympathy to Walden Bello's case because they think he helped the Marcos-Duterte rot spread by once-upon-a-time criticizing the PNoy administration (same take they got vs the Left, both ND and non-NDs) is one of the reasons why you are all losing this country.
I'm not a fan of Bello either (he's a Chavista). But the man has been fighting the Marcoses even before most of us are born. He was arrested multiple times in the US for protesting Marcos's human rights abuses. His breaking in and 'recovery' of confidential documents from the World Bank helped expose how the International Monetary Fund financed the regime. If anything it was the failures of post-EDSA Revolution and the neoliberal policies of the past administrations that contributed to the election of Duterte and the return to power of the kleptocrats.
You keep on shouting "democracy" but you refuse to think that libel can be used by the government to silence dissent. If they can jail a man like Bello, they can jail us too.

I don't know about you but it's not Robredo's "thanksgiving" speech nor the negative international reaction to Burnik's win that gives me hope. It's that one tweet that says: The COMELEC building looks flammable. Because indeed, it is flammable. In fact not just the COMELEC building but any other buildings and lots of things. From cars to stations, from prisons to courts, from literature to concepts and ideas--everything that is made by Man can be fuel to fire.
I'm no accelerationist. I wanted Robredo to win because I'm so tired of another "Duterte" presidency. But one good thing a Burnik government can give us is the urgency to fight back. His presidency will be marked by an even worse structural violence. What we can do is to practise stronger solidarity and mutual aid. And if the State would go so far as to deny these developments, right then we shall remind them that everything is flammable and that the government and its functions are only man-made.
If Robredo is building what we call "dual power", then it should be ready to clash with the State. Of course a by-product of building this kind of movement is State suspicion and harrassment. Robredo's supporters should toughen up.

Ingat replaced the formal paalam and the casual sige. To say ingat became a form of prayer, to wish them luck because chances were, as a Filipino writer and Martial law survivor states, you could meet your friends one day in a prison cell, a torture house, or at a wake. Before the atrocities committed by the Marcos regime, ingat carried its original Malay meaning: to keep in mind; to remember. Paalam because we respect those who stay, and ingat because we will always remember them.
