“Funny.” He replied, not even looking at the skinny nerd as he spoke. “And I’m not one for nerd stuff but guess what? I get to hear you and that hobbit friend of yours talk about sandwiches. For hours. I think I win here.”

                                        The kid’s babbling was wisely ignored and the only evidence that he had even heard Chuck’s words was the glint of confusion in his eyes, overshadowed by a concerned frown. Sitting up, he pulled the boy into his arms, his warm chest welcoming the younger man and a leg was shifted so his lover could be as close as physically possible. When Chuck snuggled closer, buried himself against Jayne’s muscles, a low sigh left the mercenary’s throat.  Ever since these new people crashed into the nerd’s life, more and more nightmares seemed to pain his young lover and it peeved him but all he could do was watch and hold him at night.  ❝  ’S okay.  ❞  Rocking him gently, Jayne left a trail of featherlight kisses on Chuck’s head as a calloused hand came up to play with the stray curls on his nape.   ❝  Ain’t nobody here that can hurt you. Y’know I’ll protect you.  ❞
