Prologue:My vision clears to see someone snapping a finger in front of my face to get my attention.
*"Anyone in there? Earth to Ardens. Ah! Your back. Thank the gods." Said Innkaly.
*"Sorry, I must have zoned out for a moment. Anyways. You were saying?" Said Ardens.
*"Yes! As I was saying. Remember how your parents have been pestering you to get a job? So.. as I promised I would help you look considering, I am sure you know how horrible the job crisis is right now. And I found this place looking for a new archivist. You like books and your mom is literally a head librarian so should be easy enough for you. Despite the lack of a degree. Though we can just forge those papers for you." Said Innkaly.
Ardens paused for a moment, then said "hold up, Forge?! Where did that come from! Also I said I was looking for a simple summer job! I am no where near qualified to be a archivist's assistant or a archivist in general! Please tell me you have a different one.. please."
*"Nope!~ deal with it, I already set up the interview. And it's in like 2 hours. So get ready! And I am leaving! Paalam! Adios! Sayonara! Vāle! Goodbye! And good day to you as well Ardens!" Said Innkaly cheerfully with a spin as they turned their back on me and then proceeded to leave the room but not before stealing a strawberry flavored lollipop from the bowl of candy on the table.
I sigh and start getting ready for the interview. Part of me is hoping to get it to not be reliant on my parents' money anymore, and another part hoping I don't get it because I am definitely not qualified for this despite my mom's job and the fact I spent basically my entire childhood when out of school just reading.
I lament to myself in my internal thoughts as I walked to the interview, I realized too late that I never wrote a resume..
*"Well, fuck." I think to myself as I realize this in the waiting room. While waiting notice the clock on the wall, it's steady ticking with the underlying noise of absolute nothing, not even the cars outside can be heard in the underlying silence, causing a mild dread to set over the room.
I noticed that despite the waiting room having plenty of chairs there is no one else here.
*"Well that's odd." I think to myself but try not to dwell on it for too long.
Eventually I get called into the office for the interview and I sit down, I remain silent waiting for the first question to be asked but the proctor hasn't said a word yet and appears to be staring into my soul, despite his eyes being milky white, I get the creeping feeling he can see me.
I stare back not blinking and remain silent waiting for him to speak, he says nothing.
Then suddenly after 10 minutes the proctor says:*"You're hired, welcome to the team."
Then proceeded to get up and leave the room.I couldn't help but notice that, he doesn't have a cane and seems to navigate fine despite the apparent blindness.
*"Maybe it's just an odd medical condition I haven't heard of before. Either way, not my time or place to judge." I think to myself, and get up to leave the room to see what exactly I am supposed to do, only to notice that as soon as I open the door and look out into the hallway it stretches onto the horizon without end, the halls lined with doors.
*"Well this first day is, certainly going to be something." I think to myself as I step out of the office. -prologue end.
