These ‘team leader meetings’ had started so Ruby could get some time on her own. Time where she didn’t have to feel responsible and could just relax, it sometimes felt like a burden on the teenager. But she was getting used to it. Also no one but Jaune would watch bad action films with her.

Ruby blushed as she looked at their sleeping arrangements, it was a little odd for the two team leaders to be sent on a mission. But not really unheard of, supposed to be some light scouting. Totally easy stuff. Until a Grimm attack destroyed Ruby’s backpack, thus leaving her without a sleeping bag. 

Ruby wasn’t the best with feelings, some would call her a bit stunted in that department. Love really had been a part of her life plan, not that she would call what she felt for Jaune. At least not yet. But she had been given ‘the talk’ before she came to Beacon, even if she girl hadn’t really fully understood it. At least until now. 

She slept sounded until she felt the familiar feeling of being carried, her father or Qrow did that all the time. The girl had a bad habit of falling asleep in front of the TV, especially when they had to go on a hunt. She never slept well until they got back. But they would carry her back to her bedroom and tuck her in. It seemed like Jaune was about to do just that.

Ruby hadn’t even meant to fall asleep, but sitting around a campfire after a long day of traveling wore the young huntress out. She had been sitting next to Jaune at the time, the two of them had slowly started to explore something that was felt between them. It was hard to pin down exactly what, was it just the fact that they were both lonely and needed the comfort? Or was it something more? 

Everyone had drifted off eventually, Nora and Ren moving to their own tent. They never seemed to leave each other’s side, even when they slept. Sometime Ruby wished that they could just come out and say they were together, all of them knew it but never said anything. The rest of Team RWBY and Qrow had wandered off, probably to drink in Qrow’s case.
