Lockwood's day had been going perfectly normal until Lucy knocked on his door. It wasn't strange for her to do so, they were friends, after all, and she knocked on his door plenty of times for a variety of reasons. It was what she said this time, that changed his day from "perfectly normal" to "was he sure he hadn't woken up in some kind of twisted parallel reality?".

Anthony Lockwood would never say he enjoyed being in pain. Half the time it was bearable and the other half it made his life miserable. But it was constant. Even when it varied in intensity, even if he had the fortune for it to fade to a dull ache for a little while, it was still there.

When everything and everyone else left, he still had the pain to remind him he was still alive. For a while, it was the only thing he could rely on to do that.

It never occurred to him that not everyone had to live like this.

Apparently Lockwood needs to get out more. At least, according to Flo’s ‘expert’ opinion he does. (He’s not quite sure why she’s decided she’s the expert in socialising between the two of them, considering she probably does it even less than he does.) One solo ticket to Thorpe Park later, and he’s not feeling that much better.

Lockwood doesn’t believe in fate, but when a pair of glasses falls from the sky and initiates a chance encounter with couple Lucy and George — who ask if he wants to spend the rest of the day with them — what is he supposed to do?

Or: George loses his glasses on a rollercoaster; Lockwood finds them. George’s girlfriend Lucy thinks Lockwood’s cute, and maybe he does too.

“I’ve never kissed anyone before, okay?” Lockwood spluttered. “I don’t know. What if I’m not any good at it?”

Without looking up from his book, George shrugged. “You’ll be fine. It’s not hard, you just need practice.”

“What, are you offering then?” he joked.

George glanced up at him, an amused smile curling his lips that quickly dropped when he realised Lockwood’s expression didn’t entirely match his tone.

Was Lockwood… being serious?

George shrugs, already heading back to his book. “No idea. I am however, as a result, an excellent knitter. It's rather methodical, really. Soothing, even.”

“So will you help me?”

He looks back up at her slowly, and takes a prolonged sip of his tea, pretending he doesn’t understand. “I failed to hear a clarification in your question. What exactly do you need help with?”

“I need you to teach me to knit.”
