fandom spaces have slowly lost all etiquette & become the breeding ground for βbring back bullyingβ mindsets
I think that some of the assholes who love to hate authors behind the veil of anonymity forget that on the other end of the screen, there might be a human being contemplating the worst of the worst. And I'm not saying this for me.
Over the past few days, I have seen so many authors deactivating, I have seen multiple suicidal ideational text posts. And then those motherless comments from the anons only push them towards the ledge. I wish I had the ability to hug all of the victims of this kind of cruelty.
Because you never know the impact your worse might have on some people. You don't know if they're contemplating it. You don't know if they'll do something stupid. You don't know if you're pushing them towards a blade or a ledge.
And these anons don't care because they are anons. But if tomorrow someone you cared about died, you'd be seeking answers. And what if you found out it was because of some weird, entitled internet freak who got off of bullying others? What then?
I wish I could hold each and every one of these people accountable for the careless shit they say. You'll realise, they don't actually have a justifiable answer (bullying is not justifiable under any circumstance).
There was one point in time where some people just avoided others who they didn't like or didn't approve of. But now, somehow, it has become the norm to hate on them through the comments, through anonymous messages, and sending stalkers on their tail. I've seen authors getting their personal information dug out by randos on the Internet.
It's not funny. It's creepy, it's concerning.
I feel so bad for anyone who has had to go through something like that. Sending much love your way <3
