My Ranger Henry's and Hans song.
The lines "How can I hope for saving when i can not save myself?", and "The reasons you should go are so much more than the ones to stay.", are Hans's darker inner thoughts that he hides behind all of his arrogance and bravado.
Hans has been heavily isolated, probably for most of his life, despite being surrounded by his peers and other nobility.
He tells you of how he was "dogged by tutors and courtiers" as a child which were people that only gave him attention because they wanted something. And even though he is an adult in age, he isn't taken seriously because he is still considered a "child" in noble society because of things outside his control.
And i doubt there are many people, especially the men of the nobility, that he could be vulnerable around at all for obvious reasons.
He has no true connection and, as evident in KCD2, he blames himself for most of it.
His wenching and drinking, though it gets him in trouble, is his way of trying to find that connection he has missed most of his life.
It's why he drinks with "peasants" and is so willing to apologize to Henry when he was in the wrong, even if it takes him a few business days.
However, because most of his connections are ultimately superficial at best, it never lasts and he always ends up alone again no matter how hard he tries.
So, when Henry waltzes into his life and starts treating him like a human, genuinely cares, and keeps coming back, the line right before the chorus kicks off essentially describes his mental state.
And unlike nearly everyone else in Hans's life, Henry doesn't.
So the second set of verses I picture is Henry reassuring him in that unhinged way of his.
"If your not scared of the smoke, I'm not afraid to move in flames."
"You are dressed to kill and i am content to burn the place."
And the part that hit me the hardest, because of the obvious...
"The things that i have done and the things that I would do... I will tear the very stars from the sky to stay with you."
Which are words that Henry proves are not hollow, regardless of whether their relationship is platonic or romantic.
So...this is what my brain will be chewing on for a while and thought i would share the food.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
