Dawn "Can't Get Him Off My Mind" (Apt 25088-B, 1965) In time for mid-Fall obsessions, there's this one off obscurity by the mysterious "Dawn" (no affiliation with the later Tony Orlando and combination group that became the darlings of AM Top 40 at the turn of the decade). Consistently Surprising to me is how much effort a number of labels put behind the production values at least of artists that would end up being one-off recording ventures for the label. Granted, Apt Records was a subsidiary of ABC-Paramount records, so they weren't lacking for a promotional budget, especially if they had high hopes for a new artist. But it's also surprising that when that artist didn't bother to trouble the charts at all, how quickly the new artist became old hat and was dispatched with immediately.
Nevertheless, this record is a beautiful piece of magnificent obsession if I've ever heard one. Going boy-crazy never sounded so delightful.Â
