I keep water in my KSB’s cage and I regularly see him drinking! I also have a heavy piece of sandstone in there and it’s well-grounded on the base of the tank. You want to secure anything heavy, but they very often appreciate something to climb on- I do see mine bask pretty regularly. Providing some cage decor, such as rocks and sticks to climb on, allows them to have that choice if they want- and provides them with something to do besides burrow! The water dish I use is very shallow, but I think it’s important to offer water! Access to water is something that we can do to make their captive lives better! And a small, shallow water dish will not affect the humidity in any major way. A lot of sand boa owners do things differently and their snakes are fine, but that’s the way I like to keep things!
