We got a good apple update! They added a reduce bright effects setting.
Go to settings, accessibility, display & text size.
If you have eye sensitivity, I recommend turning on reduce transparency, reduce bright effects, dim flashing lights, and reduce white point.
You can also reduce motion by going to settings, accessibility, motion. I have turned off all the auto play options. I also turned on the prefer cross-fade transitions. It is much nicer.
If you want to make it even better, go to settings, display & brightness, Liquid Glass. Switch to tinted.
The new Reader is still messed up, though. Extra button presses to do the same thing the old one did, plus it is locked to the sides of the phone when I used to have it in the middle.

My lock screen added an extra step to use the password over thumbprint now which is REALLY annoying & time consuming
