sometimes i write out an idea thats been circling my brain for a while and i go "actually, thisd work way better if it werent about my blorbos" however, i do not have the juice to put together ocs for this, so humanformers jazzprowl yuri it is. prepare for All The Plot laid out here. maximum spoilers for a nonexistent fic.
imagine... lounge singer Jazz who moonlights as a PI. she likes to keep her lives seperate- each one puts the other in jeopardy- but one day, this beautiful woman comes to one of her performances, and she looks so out of place in the bar. she draws Jazz's curiosity, who begins trying to piece together information about this mysterious woman as she continues her set. the woman stays after the show, and approaches Jazz, asking her to help investigate her husbands murder.
this woman is, of course, Prowl, the chief of police...
...'s widow.
Jazz has heard of her, but never met her before, so she doesn't recognize her until Prowl reveals who her husband is/was. the chief of police and Jazz have history (mutual distaste for one another but also they smoke/drink together type of thing) and Prowl's come up a few times. the impression Jazz gets is that she's distant, cold, and devastatingly beautiful, all proven true upon their first meeting.
the news is being kept pretty hush hush since the police haven't been able to pinpoint the identity of the killer, which means Jazz has limited time to solve the case if she takes it on. and why wouldn't she take it on? Jazz isn't too well known as a PI yet- she's done a few cases here and there, but her work typically gets attributed to others or the solved case gets smoothed over by the authorities. (particularly, by the chief of police...) but this? well first of all, the chief of police is dead so he can't get in her way, but also it's a big enough story that it'd get her name out there for sure.
the two ladies grow closer as the investigation goes on. prowl does her best to provide jazz with what information she needs for the investigation. she has connections- or rather her husband had connections that she can also make use of. they get together to discuss the investigation and Jazz begins to see Prowl open up more, coaxed out of her shell. she is fiercely intelligent and
as the investigation goes on, Jazz feels conflicted about her growing feelings for a grieving widow (who's also a lady) and having to navigate that relationship while also unraveling the mystery surrounding the murder.
Prowl lets her mask slip a bit, loosening and warming up to Jazz. their meetings end with them lingering longer than they should, especially since Prowl is going behind the backs of the police force to get Jazz in on the case. Prowl opens up about her difficulties she was experiencing with her marriage, and opens up to Jazz more in general. both parties are falling for each other hard, and as such, that is when it all goes to shit.
time is running out for Jazz to solve the case, and she has a crisis about it ending and losing her excuse to meet up with Prowl... and then, she figures out who the murderer is.
the one who murdered the chief of police is none other than his wife, Prowl.
she murdered her husband, hired Jazz, and has been feeding her evidence to frame someone else. there's the potential that Jazz would have been a suspect throughout this as well, since the police knew she and and chief of police didn't get along. i don't think Prowl would have been framing Jazz specifically, but it was on the table had the investigation gone sour earlier. she had hoped that Jazz' investigation would be thorough enough to absolve her of any guilt (in the eyes of the law) but yknow. things happen.
as for Prowl... you could go the route of "ohhh the chief of police was corrupt and Prowl couldn't stand for that so she plotted to kill him" but i think that's not as interesting as "what if Prowl was the one pulling the strings for the sake of making the city 'better' and 'safer'. she's the real brains, and she's been the one staging cover ups for Jazz's cases. that's how she knows how good Jazz is at investigating, and that's why she hired her."
maybe Prowl's plan would launch a chain of political events that would lead to a shift in the city (skewed towards a better future) ... or maybe her husband was her fall guy, where when all the corruption and bribery and coverups are revealed, everyone thinks it was his doing rather than hers. maybe its both at once.
Jazz must now decide what to do with this information, knowing that Prowl was lying to her and using her- she almost signed off an innocent person to be prosecuted. and the worst part of it is that she can see how it'd make the city better if she lets Prowl's plan go through.
... anyway, someone (not me) should make this au/fic real.

Bradley kisses Jake for the first time with anger clenched between his teeth. Jake kisses Bradley for the first time oddly gentle, benediction. The first time it matters, Jake's fingers rest over his heart. The first time they forget themselves, Nat retches dramatically. The first time after three months apart, neither of them can let go of the other. The first time it's sweet and the first time with teeth and the first time they're laughing too hard to make much of it: a dozen, dozen little novelties each clutched in desperate fingers.
