It’s not the locking up that’s painful, but Seam gradually seeing Jevil become corrupted into someone else, someone so different from who he loved. From two people who perfectly understood each other, something that should’ve been inalienable to something twisted, foreign. It’s watching all that you knew and loved become strange, become unknown to you.

The look she gave him would be one of disdain, if she weren’t quite so clearly confused.
