( for @apostl to help sammy who’s stranded on the road. )
he almost has to laugh at the predicament he’s found himself in, stranded on the side of the road in the only vehicle he owns. it just so happens, this is also his home. for someone who takes such a calm approach at life, he’ll admit he’s beating himself up about this particular instance a little bit hard. hindsight is twenty-twenty and as he thinks back to all the decisions that have lead him here, he kicks himself for not stopping for gas when the light came on twenty miles back. he’d thought the ole girl could make it back in to town, thought he knew his van better than to let it run on fumes. whoops. the doors to the van are open, offering a bit of a breeze to his cat who has made herself at home curled up on his bed while sammy leans against mustard yellow paint and strums his guitar. there hasn’t been a car for miles and he’d be willing to attempt boarding the way to the last gas station, if only the storm that’s rumbling along the horizon didn’t look so angry. he’s a patient man though, keen to roll with the punches when a pair of headlights cuts through the blue haze of a setting sun in the distance. he sticks out his hand, tucks his guitar back into the van before taking a step towards the road to flag the car down if they’re willing to stop on his account. he’s beaming like summer sun when they actually do and he nears the side of the car with caution, bending down to speak through the open passenger’s side window. “thanks so much for stoppin’. you’re the first car i’ve seen for hours.” he laughs. “ran outta gas. any chance you’re feelin’ charitable?” his tone is like honey as it wraps slowly around syllables, that light hearted drawl of his pleasant and ariose. “be willin’ t’pay, an’ all, of course.”
