'similar and seperated'. The later refering to the fact that there are only four species in the genus - two in Australia and a fourth in Chile. In fact, the A. similis population in the Chatham Islands is so similar to the Chilean species that there might only be three species.

AKA oioi, and originally described as Leptocarpus similis in 1970, by New Zealand botanist Elizabeth Edgar (1929 – 2019). Edgar was considered the "foremost authority on naming and describing plants" in New Zealand, and remembered as one of New Zealand's greatest botanists.

Despite the common name, actually a Restiad.

Widespread in coastal wetlands, but also found around peat bogs.
