On October 20th, 2018, API Chaya is hosting We Seed: Generations Taking Root & Thriving, a space for all ages to share skills and stories to celebrate and strengthen our ancestral wisdom. Through this gathering and workshops, we hope to grow intergenerational intimacy by centering leadership of elders and young people, providing opportunities to connect with each other, and increase our skills and knowledge to have the relationships we want.

We Seed Workshop Tracks

Queer Network Program The Queer Network Program track will hold space for workshops on healing relationships and decolonizing identities across generations of Queer, Trans, Gender diverse Pasifika and SE Asian peoples.

Interfaith The Interfaith track will highlight how faith communities can join together in supporting survivors of violence, and provide means to empower and unite communities in dismantling prejudice and discrimination.

Transformative Justice & Relationship Skills (Prevention) This track will focus on the values, strategies and tools of equitable relationships, and community-based solutions to domestic and sexual violence. The revolution starts at home, so let’s skill up and work towards the relationships and communities we all deserve!

Access for All Language is vital to communication, and communication is crucial to being able to express and meet needs. Shared language allows us to have a shared understanding of violence and the tools to interrupt and prevent violence. This is why we say language access is a human right. Please join us for an afternoon of sharing barriers, challenges, and creative community solutions to help shape an emerging campaign to raise awareness of what it takes to treat language access as a human right.

FYRE (Filipino Youth Reunite to Elevate) The FYRE track will focus on our community garden: Lupang Ipamana (Land of Your Legacy) and connecting with our ancestral practices of farming and cultivating the land, while honoring those whose ancestral lands we are currently on. Learn how FYRE promotes youth leadership in developing long term skills for sustainable and collective living, healthy behaviors, as well as consensual relationships for families and community members.

1. API Chaya's 20th Annual Candlelight Vigil

As an organization that provides domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking services to Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander communities, we are coming together to offer spaces of healing as we honor lives lost to domestic and sexual violence. These services are held to remember the lives of Susanna Remerata Blackwell, her unborn child, baby Kristine, Phoebe Dizon, and Veronica Laureta, who were shot and killed at the King County Courthouse in 1995 by Susanna’s estranged and abusive husband. Our vigil theme “Kapwa”, is a Tagalog term meaning the shared interconnectedness among and between beings. By seeing the self in others, we are able to wholeheartedly support our communities while taking accountability for the violence existing in our world. Kapwa seeks to provide the vigil as a transformative and healing space of understanding through celebrating our communities' legacy of resilience and survivorship.
