((For the head canon thing)) Dover/Annapolis, Alaska/Hawai'i, and Missouri/Maine because why not
Theyâre all fluffy because I like happiness.
Dover/Annapolis
The two chose to get married when same-sex marriage was legalized across all states. They woke up to fireworks when it happened, curtesy of NYC, Albany, Portland, Concord, and Montpelier. Boston âmadeâ a âcakeâ and Augusta made sure no one saw him swap it with one Maine made.
(Based on my best friendâs wedding) When Delaware saw Dover in her wedding outfit, he ducked behind the door the second he looked. Another state (Penn most likely) then yelled out âOh wow, I think heâs crying!â before snapping a picture as proof.
Delaware walked Dover down the isle while Maryland walked Annapolis.
The two cried when they were standing up at the alter and Penn has the pictures to prove it.
Dover decided to extend the wedding invitations to Maine and Augusta, who not only showed up but brought Portland. Maine gave them wine and champagne while Portland and Augusta gave them each a sword. âJust in caseâ they said. Neither of them are sure what that means.
The wedding was actually pretty small, as the two only wanted people they were close to attending. They later had a larger party with more capitals and states to celebrate.
The two used to pass notes to each other during meetings before D.C. separated them. He very quickly learned that the other capitals enjoy his pain because they continued to pass notes for the two. D.C. may or may not have cried when texting was invented.
Both were afraid to come out at first but Delaware and Maryland were very supportive. Some capitals were a bit off-put at first but the two are too nice to be rude to. Others were supportive and did their best to make sure Dover and Annapolis felt safe. The gun-friendly capitals even offered concealed weapons. Both refused but were grateful for the concern. At least one capital hid pepper spray in their bags. No one is sure who did. Mostly because at least 5 tried.
Alaska/Hawai'i
Alaska can not stand the heat and Hawaiâi can not stand the cold. The do their best to compromise and have an unspoken rule that their rooms in each otherâs houses have to be set to a specific temperature whenever they visit.
Northern California set them up to get them to hang out outside of meetings. He wanted them to have at least two friends and was curious to see if theyâd get along. He assumed theyâd barely have anything in common. Oh, how his miscalculated.
Neither are overly excited about PDA. When alone, they enjoy curling up together while they work on things or watch T.V. but find public displays a bit annoying.
However, if someone is flirting with one of them, the other will not hesitate to wrap their arms around the other and shamelessly flirt in an effort to make the person uncomfortable. This can backfire if the person was not actually flirting, leading to awkward conversations later. SoCal finds it hilarious.
The two hate being apart for too long and ended up living together pretty quickly. They spend summer and fall in Alaska and winter and spring in Hawaiâi.
They both know how to dance but in vastly different ways. Alaska knows Russian dances and Hawaiâi knows her traditional dances. They often try and teach each other, though it usually ends in forced breaks due to laughter.
Missouri/Maine
The two did not get along at first. At all. In some ways, theyâre too similar. Both are headstrong fighters, so they tended to butt heads over certain topics.
After a while, the two ended up respecting each otherâs courage. Maine denied any feelings beyond respect and Missouri kept his to himself. Very few states saw past the fighting and thought the two despised each other.
It took a lot for the ice queen to break and admit to the New Englanders that maybe, just maybe, she found him interesting. Mass was not happy with the situation and kept saying that his âlittle sister was too good for a Southernerâ.
Most states were shocked when the two were revealed to be in a relationship. While it slowly became more normal to see them together, there are still a couple of states uneasy about the situation.
The two find expensive dates to be boring and prefer going to fairs and being outside on their dates. Missouri taught Maine how to properly ride a horse and Maine taught him how to never lose his way in her state when hiking.
Both are avid French Speakers and often are heard conversing in their own French Dialects. (Missouri French and New England French/Acadian French) This pains France every time he hears it.
Missouri hates NorâEasters with a passion and doesnât understand how Maine can deal with them so easily. The reverse is true with Maine and tornados. Missouri is also (rightfully) terrified by moose and has no clue why Maine adores them. Especially seeing as she refuses to approach them in the wild.
