APENDIX: Map of Ealden Cynedom V.2

I have been an avid map-drawer for some time; Due in part to being a concept artist. For all my story worlds, I have in-depth maps.

However, ToEC, has one of the simplest maps to date.

Often, my story maps can go through eight upgrades until finalized; and focus on what is most relevant to the stories and world-building. As ToEC has little focus on anything other then trains and magic forests, the map is but a request and homage to the fantasy genre; which is the purpose of the collection.

I decided to upgrade the map to resolve the following:

Increase a feeling of scale

Include more climate zones

make nations proportional

Clearer labeling of nations an relevent places

adjustment of train lines

emphasis on magic forest locations

Jargon made simple! If it’s mentioned, you may experience a bout of confusion. Because if context tells you nothing, one sentience might.

Magic Users

Common Folk: n. People who do not use magic.

Dark: v. To have magic run through some one from the shadow veil. This may cause hemorrhaging, amnesia, and fever; thus, it can be lethal. Going dark also causes a change in hair and eye colour.

Dark Type: adj. The manor in which someone has magic move though them.

·        Abyss: The individual has a dark aura around them when they go dark.

·        Beacon: The individual glows when they go dark.

·        Gray: in which going dark is uncontrollable and random; resulting in amnesia and a slow death.

Grey Dark: v. When the flow of magic through someone is random, uncontrollable, and causes brain damage/neurological side-effects. Over time it leads to death, unless said person is a Storm breaker (treated with storm staph), or is turned into a Warg (imbued with a fey)

Mage: n. someone who is born with naturally high amounts of magic flowing through them, allowing them to use stronger magic without the aid of tools or teaching.

Mage Type. adj. in some mages have a speciality when they go dark.

·        Storm Braker: Upon feeling great joy, the mage will go gray dark, causing amnesia and destructive weather conditions.

·        Gate: when the mage goes dark, they thin the difference between the day and shadow veil around them to draw in more magic.

·        Meader (mædɛr): Mages that exude powerful healing magic when they feel any form of love.

·        Memoire le morte: mages that can use time magic.

·        Warg: a mage imbued with the spirit and magic of a dead fey; resulting in them having properties of said fey, and the ability to turn into said fey. This is done by a mage making an oath to the fey that inhabits them.

·        Season: Mages that have magical abilities that relate to their magic house’s place on the table of fours.

·        Kingdom: a mage that has properties and magic that is unique to their magic house’s fey kingdom.

Magic House: n. a last name indicating someone is born into one of fifty linages, that allow humans to use magic or be born a mage.

Magic Occupation: adj. The role a magic user plays or specializes in.

·        Unique to Wizards

o   Sorcerer: Specialization in the use of alchemy, transformation, and summoning.

o   Apothecary: specialization in potions and magical herbs/objects.

·        Found in both Wizards and Mages

o   Seer: a specialization in the observation and recording of magical phenomenon.

o   Heartman/heortemann: a specialization in the use of healing magic, and curing of magic ailments.

o   Witch: a specialization in diplomacy in magic between fey, commoners, and magic users.

o   Paladin: a specialization of magic used in combat, security, or law informant

·        Unique to Mages

o   Charmer: a specialization in the use of song, music, and dance, to cast magic that manipulates people, fey and the surrounding environment.

o   Warlock: a specialization in crafting magical objects (e.g. Magical: weapons, jewellery, mirrors , furniture, wands, potions etc.)

Wizard: n. someone born into a magic house, and is trained to use magic, but is not a mage.

Fey

Acadian Fairy: Royal fey; Twin six winged human sized fairies that change colour with the seasons and can alchemize and transform anything.

Acrean Gimm: Royal fey of the stone kingdom; able to turn into any mineral substance to hide. Undetectable by humans, and mute.

Aliki Wolf: Royal fey; timber wolves of rideable size wearing armor.

Beast King: An incarnation and source of one of the ten parts of magic. They are named by the type of fey they create. And create and reside in the Shadow veil. They are: Dragon, Fairy, Stag, Raven, Wolf, Fish, Tree, Stone, Rat, and Monkey.

Beast Queen: The human mage a beast king has fallen in love with, and wed. they act as a second parent to the fey kingdom, and create royal fey.

Calci Tree: A magical ornamental cherry that grants infinite wishes.

Cynedom Dragon: Royal fey; pearly white dragons with gold accents, that can breath any fire, change size, and have indestructible sales.

Dominion Deer: Royal fey of the stag kingdom; white elk with golden antlers wrapped with glass flowers.

Earden Macac: Royal fey of the monkey kingdom; a horse sized striped baboon wearing purple and armor.

Fey: a sentient entity made of magic, by a beast king.

Fairy: Fey that resemble humans, that are made to be friends with humans.

Griminthrope: Royal fay of the Raven kingom; princes that are giant black ravens with white patches and skulled heads. They make any noise, and only eat things that are dead or rotting.

Hamman Ferret: Royal fey of the rat kingdom; giant ferrets that have a crown(princes), or necklace(princesses).

Leguid Mermaid: Royal fey of the fish kingdom; gold and white koi like mermaids with pointed head bands, that turn into northland women on land.

Moon Serval: wolf fey resembling a white serval with indigo spots that shine in moonlight, and guard sleeping travelers.

Mothkin: Large fairies in the form of moths, or tall people in royal robes and moth wings, that guide the lost.

Nymph: a human looking fairy acociated with an aspect of nature (eg. Rivers, trees, rain, volcanos, sun, shadows, pools, stars, ect.)

Terralith Tree: Royal fey; pearl barked trees with crystal leaves and flowers that make any magic or mundane: fruit, flower, seed, leaf, sap, stem, or bark.

Queen in waiting; A mage that has requieted the love of a royal fey, making them the next queen if a beast king dies.

Richen Raven: royal fey; opalescent feathered white, four winged ravens, with golden eyes, talons and beaks. They are the princess of the raven kingdom. They make any noise, and only eat dead or rotting things.

Royal Fey: fey that are half human and half magic, and require a beast king to have a queen to make.

War Horse: A stag fey that is a large draft horse with tough hide, metal hooves, great speed, incredible strength, and courageous spirit.

Wildling: colourful mischievous social fairies, that resemble lost boys. They are named after the biome they are found, and have an elemental power. (eg. Ice, cave, storm, forest, prairie, garden, fire, mountain, and beach)

Other

Day Veil: n. The real world where humans live.

Fairy robes: n. Colourful outfits made specially for each mage by the Fairy King; they are protective against magic and physical harm. They are also often inherited (authentic), or imitated by wizards to indicate someone is trained to use magic. The robes match that of the beast king associated with the person’s magic house.

Familiar: n. an animal companion of a magic housed human, that come from a magic housed human summoning themselves. They are often animals related to the fey kingdom the magic user is housed, and relate to the summoner’s inner nature. They share physical and emotional sensations with their master/summoner. If they die, their mast/summoner does not.

Gate: n. A stone plate with the table of fours engraved on it, with ten stones for each fey kingdom that allow fey and humans to enter and exit the shadow veil. There are thirteen in total, and are made by warlocks.

Shadow Veil: n. A ether made of magic from the beast kings that permeates the Day Veil; Fey and the beast king’s live here.

Table of Fours: n. A cartesian plane diagram that illustrates magical correlations. The quadrants each represents a: element, colour, metal, navigational direction, and two to three fey kingdoms.

  Objects

Storm staph: n. one of ten staphs made by Sirulius Healpenbroc to help Storm Breaker mages control their weather abilities.

Singing sword: n. swords made of special folded steel that can be temporarily do anything they are charmed to.

Magic fire: n. Coloured fire that has untraditional properties such as: healing, hexing, turning into water, never going out, freezing ect. The type is indicated by it’s colour.

Acadian Crystal: n. crystal made by the fairy king or acadian faries, that resonates at the frequency of magic itself.

Potion: a combination of magic substances, made in a ritualistic way, that results in a substance used for magic purposes. (eg. casting spells, healing fey, enchanting, ect)

Summon: v. the act of using a diagram or speech or to cause something to appear. Requires knowing what your summoning, and where it is located.

Alchamize: v. making something from magic itself.

Transmute: v.making something from something else.

Charm: v. A spell that is sung with a ballad.

Housing/dehousing sword: n. twin swords made by Tiberius to remove some one’s magic house(ability to use magic), or make them a mage.

Sleeping sword: n. a weapon that causes someone to go into a healing sleep when they are pierced. Unwalkable sleep lasts until wounds/illness is fully healed.

Wintersleep: v. A death like sleep that lasts until the next spring.

Mage pen: n. A wand that be used by a mage.

Winter steel: n. metal made with fairy fire, that has the properties of the blue quadrant of the table of fours. Often used to make things that have to do with night or ice.

Why the Art?

All the illustrations (usually one per chapter), are one of the biggest barriers to posting these stories. Tales of Ealden Cynedom was actually 3/4 the finished in winter 2020, and 1/3 of it’s illustrations completed; mostly in the form of character concepts.

I decided to illustrate Tales of Ealden Cynedom in the spirit of traditional storybooks. These being fantasy short stories for all ages, and meant to be read aloud, I wanted pictures to go with the stories to bring them to life.

I am primarily an illustrator, so it would be a shame not to incorporate it into my work. So you can even just enjoy this blog just for the illustrations if you like!

Original Materials

All illustrations are done on pen paper (Pentalic), inked in 1.0m black ball point pen (Bic), metallic paint pens (Pilot), and coloured with water-based markers (Tombow). Then illustrations are digitized by scaning them, and any necessary corrections are made in Photoshop.

Digital Adjustments

The words “Photoshop” or “Editing” may strike fear in the hearts of many due to over a decade of magazine adds and instagram culture. Worry not. Depending on the picture and story, how much digital media I apply to the traditionally made pictures can very. I try very hard to do as little as possible unless I want it look edited.

All the illustrations are kept in original form in a binder and, I am told, are wonderful in person. However, as any traditional artist knows, nothing butchers a work of hand made art like photographing or digitizing it. Think of that next time look at a picture of one of Michelangelo’s works on google images; and then think what Rembrandt paintings might look like in real life.

So why/what do I edit when I scan an illustration?

1.      Colour correction: This is done to every illustration. Due to they type of pigments in markers and scan settings, the illustration will look nothing like they do in real life. Thus, they will need to have their hue, saturation, levels, and contrast slightly adjusted.

2.      Cleaning inking and colouring: Sometimes line art or colouring errors can be very distracting and need to be removed or corrected.

Or your coffee spilled, and your cat bumped your arm while using permanent ink….

3.      Adding or removing a background: The most noticeable digital adjustments are when I remove or make a digital background. This is done when I think doing so will enhance the characters.

4.      Reintroduce metallic details: Half of my illustrations have metallic details added with paint pens; which scanners do not pick up. It will scan in as a grainy mess, that obstructs line art and looks lifeless. Thus, these parts are blatantly edited to look shinny again, or kept matte.

It occurred to me that these stories are presented in manor which may be hard to consume. Here are some reading order recommendations, and story summaries, to help you on your quest to read some fantastical light reading!

Preface

When a mage invents wands to share his love of magic, it allows anyone born into a magic house to become a wizard. But wizards are common folk, and thus can be corrupted by hate. Now those who assume that the old magic of mages is dangerous, conspire to eliminate them; Along with the equally intimidating fey. Thus, the balance between the Shadow Veil of magic, and Day Veil of humanity, is skewed. But one day, Morgan finds himself restoring old mage journals, and befriending the Beast Kings of fey; Unwittingly rediscovering the old magic of mages.  When Morgan's journey lands him in a small magic forest community, by an ancient tower, his actions result a verity of people seeing what happily ever after means through Ealden Cynedoms enchanting wonders.

Logistics:

Tales of Ealden Cynedom is a folk-tale inspired story collection, aimed at adding something new to the literary world of fantasy. It is aimed at those who like fairy tales, and it is aimed at general audiences, and has a middle grade feel. each story varies in tone and style, and is connected through each character. One could say it’s similar to The Sillmirrionion and vinyl Cafe.

Each story is roughly 6-9K, 32 in total, with a prologue novella.

Reading orders after story one and two:

·        By numerical order: Be warned the first chapter is intentionally written as expose.

Part 1: Tales of Beginnings

1.      Prologue: Tiberius gate (start)

A mage, Tiberius Blacstorm, pursues his dream of building gate between the Day Veil of humans and Shadow Veil of magic. While Tiberius builds his magic forest, he is ignorant that the innovation of wands, which is putting the world of magic in danger.

2.      Mage king Morgan Cyendom (start after story one)

Morgan is fascinated with the lost journals of Mages, and yearns to restore them freely. He ends up in a small town beneath an enchanted tower; Where his presence leads those around him to discover the wonders of the world, and satisfaction in life.

Part 2: Tales of Fey

4.      Woodwick and Wondael of Fountain

Fountain is a paradise where humans and fey are equals. But when this paradise is destroyed, Woodwick is the only survivor and is captured. Only wishing to be human, he awaits a second chance.

5.      Hara Fyrstan the dragon princess (continue from story four)

Hara Fyrstan is a prodigy fey professor, attempting to save a magic forest with the power of empathy and research; With a Dragon Princess.

6.      Odyseus Cyendom and Helrundel 

After loosing custody of his son, Odysseus is overcome with guilt. Rescues a fey who remind him of his son; Thus, starting a quest to simply embrace his child.

After Amadeus becomes enfayed, he notices something is different  about his cousin Rah’s magic. While Rah’s mage potential is investigated, Rah falls for Fish Prince Broc, and must decide if his love is true.

Cetus and Jupiter got custody of their nephew. Rearing their teenage mage children is rough; But then they get left babysitting Ealden Cyendom’s most dangerous fey, after the Raven King asks for a heartwarming task.

When eldest wolf prince, Eobreth, and a local girl named Scorpio go missing, so do all the carnivora fey. This mystery is only a blip, compared to the consequences to Eobreth’s and Scorpio’s families.

After graduation, Reggie decides to take over an old forge as a warlock. But not alone. She now lives with her wife; An illusive heir of the Stone Kingdom, named Wyverndor. Thus Reggie quests to find her, when she suddenly goes missing.

Part 3: Tales of True Love

12.  Orpheus heofokfleogan and Cerberus monafyra (start after story two)

When Cerberus reappears on Tiberius Gate, after Morgan trapped him in the Shadow Veil; And has an unusual favour. Orpheus is summoned to help him, leading to a series of strange reunions.

Brother in-laws, Mattias and Augustine, spend a lifetime trying to cope with their abilities to control time, and the death of a wife and sister.

Newbie paladin, Kent, takes a bounty to kick off his career. However, he is forced into a dilemma, when it turns out the bounty was for a cursed mage girl, who kills when consumed by the sea.

Traumatized by His life, Warlock Augustine makes many wishes, that he dismisses due to internal conflict. To fill the void, Augustine decides to vicariously grant these wishes to other people.

3.     Rhodochrosite: Magi Emilia Locket (start after story two)

Emilia is from a world where magician are those who believe in magic, and thus use it to entertain. Emilia runs from home to start this career early; Only to land somewhere she never thought she’d be happy.

10.  Epilogue Spring: Cadence Bucflowen and Lasarline 

Morgan and Emilia’s child of spring, Cadence, is named by the Stag King. On that day, they were also gifted the Stag Prince Laser. When Cadence has trouble stating magic school, Morgan decides to sends Laser.

11.  Epilogue Fall: Artemis Craweleoth and the Griminthrope (Start after Story eight)

The third child of the King Mage, is of autumn; Thus, the Raven king names her Artemis. One day she is called by her brother to investigate a murder, which leads to her becoming even more connected to the Raven Kingdom.

17.  Epilogue Summer: Calliope Cwenfyr and Amadeus Rosethorn (Start after story seven)

Calliope is Morgan and Emilia’s child of summer, and named by the Dragon King. Out of the three children she is the most like her father; Making her special to Amadeus. When he finds out his own daughter likes Calliope, he makes the mistake of becoming an unwarranted wing-man.

18.  Epilogue Winter: Patrick Monabellan and the paladins

Wild child of the family, Patrick is Emilia and Morgan’s fourth and final child: Child of winter, named by Morgan’s first fey friend, the Wolf King. Patrick, feeling lost after reaching his dream, finds himself recounting why he wants to be a hero.

Part 5: Tales of Old

19. Prologue: Meriam Craweleoth Queen of The Grand West (I recomend finishing Parts 1-3)

Mage Queen Merriam of the Grand West, is taken from home to be queen and court mage. All as a war brews. Thus, Merriam and the King make a pact: She’s given five knights to go on mythical quests to for peace. But it’s not just the world that needs serenity.

Part 6: Tales of Wizards

20. What the Wagon Was For 

Therapy isn’t going well. Thus, counselor Leo asks Morgan to bring something sentimental to an appointment, to help him open up. Instead, Morgan brings a variety of very specific objects, which may give away how, and why, he is King Mage.

When Emilia leaves for the summer, fragile flower Morgan breaks down and goes mute. Seeing an opportunity, the wizards scared of Morgan, abuse an ancient constitutional loophole to betroth him.

23. More Then After Happily Ever After (Start After twelve)

Newly wed one true loves, with a guaranteed happily ever after,  is not where life ends. One day, Orpheus mentions he may want to adopt children; Cerberus is less inclined.

24. Gemini Wintersleep & The Dorr Boy (Start after story seven)

When a mysterious boy from Gemini’s homeland arrives at Rosethorn Manor, it’s residence recall trauma, that lead them across the world to this magic garden.

24. Melida Daigandun & the Chase (Start after story twelve)

Melida Daigandun, Lead Paladin of The Grand West, dreamed for that title. But as a mage among wizards, she can’t get a promotion. However, she may get the job under unfortunate circumstances.

Professor Hara nabs some  nymphs from a fey collector. But there’s a problem: The missing Volcanic Nymph is due for a pick up, and Hara’s student Reggie wants a quest of her own.

Ourboros and Saianne found true love while running from home. But home comes calling, when those responsible for these cursed minors, bicker over what is best for them.

Part 6. Stories of Magic Forests

26. Fall ye’ House White Stead (start after story sixteen)

House Whitestead is an international family business, based on extorting those who are scared of magic. A young member, Cassandra Whitestead, comes to the golden butte of Doi Veng, seeking awe, but succumbing to her families wishes.

27. Trees with Ties (Start after story fifteen)

After a family tragedy is settled, Pollux and Castor find themselves in a co-dependent relationship. Realized mages, their parents bribe them with magic forests of their own, to pry the two apart. Castor in particular, is suspicious; until he is reminded of a distant dream.

28. Multifaceted

After being dormant for Centuries, half human- have magic Tree Prince, Bea,  desires to meet humanity; Thus, rooting in the magic school’s conservatory. But the teens cause him to become confused; Is he human enough, or just a tree?

29. The Haunting Acre

After failing to be forgiven by his son, Odysseus awakes in his inherited ranch; That seems to be vacant, and transported back in time.

31. Finding Fama Fauxbit (Continue after fourteen)

Kent lonely, decides to return a lost item; But it belong to the mage of Veya’s cursed jungle. yet, Kent still decides to join her; And after they bond, The Monkey King reveals her curse.

32. If We Lost The Sea Wives(Start after three or Five)

In spite of resisting, fey professor Saturn Firepot finds himself requiting the love of a selkie, who leaves after giving him a selkie daughter. To save his reputation and family, Saturn spends his whole life lying; Until his grandson comes home for the summer.

Part 8: Tales of Dreams

33. The Lost Journals (After 2, 19, or 20)

Morgan gets his career out of the gate; Restoring international mage records! But with a catch; Despite anxiety, he must teach what he studies.

34. The Front Stage (After 2, 20, or 22,)

Emilia is torn from Morgan once again, to tour as a magician. This time she has their daughter, and her employer has a secret agenda.

35. The Dane Bride (After 6, 22, or 29)

While in-laws repair relations over wedding planning, said bride seeks to prove her worth of an enchanted prince’s hand.

36. The Great Garden (After 7 or 22)

Amadeus must both cope with the loss of his mother, and his great inheritance: A valuable, enchanted, mansion and garden. Desiring a different fate, he feels unworthy of the burden. Leading him to break the irreplaceable greenhouse.

37. The Tide Pool (After 7 or 31)

spiritually lost after graduation, Rah goes on a date with his husband; Fish Prince Broc. But Broc, fearing they’ll be just like his parents if he takes the throne, uses their date to test this theory.

38. The Dormant Forge (After 9 or 25)

Regina decides to start her career in Helrem’s lost Forge. But the world is making it difficult to move in. More so, when she realizes the true value of her destination.

39. The Second Time (After 19 or 29)

Merriam wakes after dying peacefully. But she’d been gone and forgotten for centuries, and has no clue what to do with the second chance at life; She’d worked so hard, just to accept the first one.

40. The Queen’s Cave (after 5)

Suddenly desiring the feeling of home, while working abroad, Hara becomes set on moving into town. When he is denied, he disastrously turns to what he knows best.

41. The Fire Weed (After 14 or 26)

Ouroboros is the center of his father’s life; and many others. He even leaves to be a better mage and doctor for his home.

Augustine just started work at the ballet school. He moved into his childhood inherited home, and is abstaining from his vices. But that changes when he gets a new student, and remembers his nieces were occupying his property.

Wed a year, Cerberus and Orpheus have a family and no secrets. So there was no worry about their son rummaging through Orpheus’s old things; Until he pulled out something that didn’t belong.

44. The Small Apothecary (After 16)

Qilin hates his life, and wants to be only the best Apothecary. Dreaming bigger, he wants to go to his mother’s home in the Eastlands, and meet the Witch Mage of Doi Veng butte, Aurum Bridlebell.

When reading some editor notes, I discovered I may not of been clear about the fey kingdoms and beast kings…..

What are the beast kings?

The beast kings are incarnations of magic. They are the source of magic, made of magic, and make each individual fey from their magic.

They do not have to be male. King is a rank. The same applies to queens. Heteronormativity does often apply, but doesn’t have to.

There are ten, one for each fey kingdom. They can only make fey associated with their kingdom. They have a specific order based on how powerful their fey and magic is. They are as follows:

·        Dragon kingdom (dragons and reptilian fey)

·        Fairy kingdom (self explanatory)

·        Raven kingdom (avian fey)

·        Stag kingdom (ungulate fey)

·        Wolf kingdom (canid, ursine, and feline fey)

·        Tree kingdom (magical plants)

·        Fish kingdom (sea and water dwelling fey)

·        Stone kingdom (cave or mountain dwelling fey)

·        Rat kingdom (rabbit, weasel and rodent fey)

·        Monkey kingdom (primate fey)

It is worth noting each Beast king has a personality similar to their kingdom’s animal or fey.

Where are the beast kings?

They live in the Shadow Veil. They can leave, but often don’t. Thus, causing the shadow veil to be made of magic and the source of magic. This is why the shadow veil can’t be seen in the day veil. Magic is not tangible or visible, and sits as an ether suspended in the world. Thus, a gate needs to be made to summon the shadow veil/go into it.

Beast kings, queens, and royal fey do not need gates to travel between ethers/veils; but humans and regular fey do.

What do the beast kings look like?

Beast king’s have two forms: a beast/animal form, and a human form.

A king’s beast form is easier to be in as it is the natural form. They are essentially a giant version of whatever their fey kingdom is, but slightly bedazzled.

              The dragon king is a mountain sized white dragon. The stag king is house sized elk with flowered antlers. The stone king is a mountain. The rat king is a car sized rat. The Raven king is a red eyed dinosaur sized raven with shinny adornments.  The tree king a rainbow crowned pear tree bigger than a red wood. The monkey king is a golden coloured Baboon the size of an elephant. The fish king is a teal and sea foam coloured mermaid the size of a tug boat. Wolf king in an elephant sized grey wolf with armor.  The Fairy King is an ice queen like six-winged giant-sized fairy.

Human Form is harder for the beast kings to maintain, but is used to approach humans and to talk understandably by anything. Their human form is taller than an average man, and looks halfway between a human and their beast form, making them unsettling.

Do the beast kings and queens have names?

Yes. The beast king’s names aren’t to be told and only the king mage knows them. The queens are given a fey name by their beast king once they are wed. each kingdom has a naming convention; in which each kingdom has a specific suffix (listed below with IPA). Otherwise all fey and queens are called by nick names based on the first part of their fey names.

Fey names are given by the beast kings and can be used to summon or control a fey. Fey only give their full fey names to people they trust most.  Even than, fey are seldom called by the full version of their name. some fey are always referred by their fey name by preference.

How do beast kings Apply to the table/rule of fours?

Each kingdom is placed in a quadrant of the table of fours; with the top four kingdoms being placed on an axis. The fey of that kingdom will have properties that align with their placement on the table.

Why are kingdoms associated with specific nations/lands?

Each nation has an associated fey kingdom based on what kingdom gate is in that nation.  A kingdom gate is a gate to the shadow veil that transports directly to the fey kingdom in the shadow veil. Directly where that kingdom’s king, queen and fey live. (eg. Far North = Wolf gate = Wolf kingdom location in shadow veil)

Kingdoms in the shadow veil are not the same location of the gate in the day veil. magic doesn’t care about human constructed boarders.

Kingdom gates are associated with magical forests that are predominantly inhabited by that kingdoms fey. This is because gates allow fey to cross in and out of the veil, and magic can seep out of one.

Why are fey referred too as “children”?

The Fey of a kingdom are referred to, by the beast Kings and Queens, as their children. This is because fey are made, raised, named and loved by the king and queen of their kingdom. Royal fey are “big siblings”, and regular fey are “Little siblings.” Fey of other kingdoms are “cousins”. Beast kings and queens are referred to by mages and fey as mother and father of their respective kingdom.

What are Beast Queens?

Each beast king has a queen. This occurs when a beast king, like any other fey, becomes infatuated. Beast kings and royal fey can only love a mage. If the mage reciprocates their love, upon true loves kiss, the human mage in enfeyed with the beast kings magic; thus, adopting the beast king’s powers but remaining human. They are very powerful and can still do mage magic.

Beast Queens also have beast forms and human forms. The human form is easier to maintain then their beast form unlike the beast kings, because they are human.

              Beast forms of the queens include: The dragon queen is a soft white dragon that can change size. The tree queen is tall glass crowned birch. The wolf queen is a giant white wolf. The raven queen is a skull headed four winged white raven. The Stag queen is a large unicorn. The rock queen is a person made of crystal. The monkey queen is an armored baboon. The rat queen is a large white rabbit with a crystal necklace. The fish Queen can turn into a giant koi in water. The fairy queen is also a tall person with six crystal fairy wings and a crown of ice.

The Queens offer support to tehir spouses and mages, and also caring for their fey “children.” They also produce Royal fey/heirs.

Can a beast king die?

Yes. If a beast king dies, because they are made of magic, and the fey are made of their magic; Their entire kingdom disappears. Any royal fey and their Queen’s will return to being human mages.

If a beast king’s royal fey becomes infatuated with a mage and their love requited with a kiss, the mage becomes queen in waiting, and if the beast king dies the royal fey and their betrothed mage will become the new beast king and queen of that kingdom respectively. Thus, the Kingdom can be rebuilt.

What are Royal Fey?

Royal fey/ heirs/older siblings, are Fey born from love between a beast king and queen. Therefore, they are half human and half magic. They also have a beast form and a human form. It is courteous to be in human form when around humans in the day veil. They may also act as magical ambassadors or just be good big siblings to their kingdoms fey.

This means they have personalities and ranges of emotion and behaviour like a human. But abilities of the beast kings. They also have to grow because they are born instead of summoned. They are not Royal fey are usually white and gold in colour, and are whatever their kingdom is. Additionally, because they are born, they are very rare. They are as follows:

If a person has one of these last names, they are housed. being in a magic house linage, allows magic to flow into a human from the Shadow Veil.

Magic houses are the result of the Beast Kings cursing five bloodlines each, to enable humans to bare mages that bring peace between the veils. Therefore, a house permits a human the opportunity to learn magic.

Character and house names are Intentionally made to be cheesy to suit the atmosphere of high fantasy, by abusing this trope.

Each house has an Old English traslation used by mages, and a mythical beast for their seal.
