9. What a non-PoV character is thinking in a certain scene.
a. after the fight/confession
Gabeās so angry, at first. he hadnāt meant for it all to come out, and now for Tyson to throw it back at him--I canāt stay in your bed--heād said, like Gabe had ever--and now he knows, and Gabe had known heād react badly, this was why he was right not to say anything, fuck Tyson for thinking he was waiting because he was scared--
And then Tyson doesnāt come back. Gabe had sort of thought he was just going upstairs, maybe for a walk, but he doesnāt come back, and itās cold, and the anger shifts into worry. He knows Tyson can take care of himself, but heād been so mad, and--Gabeās still angry when he texts Nate. When he texts the groupchat, and then Jamie and Katie and Tysonās sister because Tyson isnāt texting any of them back and now heās actually worried, because it would be just like Tyson to get himself hurt when Gabe was furious and hurting himself, and he paces the room and angrily finishes washing the ice cream dishes theyād half-finished before they started fighting and fusses and frets and--a coward? Gabe wasnāt a coward, he was just waiting until Tyson was ready.Ā
Then finally, Tyson texts him back, enough that Gabe knows heās alive, and Gabe--he goes to bed angry at that too, that Tyson clearly doesnāt get why he was so worried, what it means to love him, that Tyson doesnāt care. That clearly Tyson doesnāt love him back, because if he had he would have stayed.Ā
The angry lasts until the morning, when Gabe gets up, and thereās no coffee. Thereās no Tyson in the kitchen, smiling at Gabeās grumpiness and putting coffee in his hands and making fun of his hair. Itās staggering, the idea of not having Tyson, even like he had him for the past months.Ā
Itās only really then, his anger burnt out and the idea of not having Tyson at all settling into his bones, that Gabe thinks. Thinks about what it means for Tyson, who wants to settle down but never knows how, to have built these routines with Gabe. For Tyson to get so close so often, and Gabe knows heās almost there, he does. For Gabe to have waited so long, for the perfect moment, and watched Tyson date and fall in love. For Tyson to have made this home with Gabe.Ā
Gabe hadnāt meant to tell Tyson when he did, it had just bubbled up, out of frustration and irritation and the annoying habit his mouth had of doing what it wanted around Tyson. But now--now, he thinks, maybe itās time for him to be ready for them both.Ā
b. when Roman was in the apartmentĀ
Gabeās not actually jealous. Really. Things with Tyson are going great, he knows that. Also, heās definitely hotter than Roman, so heās confident in that. Probably.Ā
But--he likes to indulge now, in all the urges heād had to hide before. The urges to touch and claim and make Tyson roll his eyes at him because he was being cheesy and romantic. He likes how Roman looks at them, as a pair, with Tyson as someone firmly off the market. He likes how much Tyson clearly likes it when he gets a little pushy and claimy when everyone else has gone home.Ā He likes how Tyson indulges his possessiveness. Itās nice, after so long.Ā
And also, there is only room for one hot European in the apartment, and Gabe would like Roman to know the position is already taken. Itās not a jealousy thing. itās pride.Ā
