worldbuilding question <3
follow-up on the "how do they flaunt their wealth" question
you said "the super rich tended to favour larger body types and curves/ show off their wealth through diet and being able to afford it", so lots of money = lots of food = fatter people (which probably = more fabric for garments, which circles back to lots of money)
and then you said "whereas the unfathomably rich would circle back around to more typical modern beauty standards and skinnier body types because they can afford like the best dieticians and most elaborate diets possible to make their health and appearance "perfect" in that way"
i'm wondering where the "skinnier body is perfect" claim comes from societally? if money = food = fat, why does looking skinnier (and thus more like the lower class i assume?) ends up desirable?
i think the idea came from the fact that they would be so rich, so well known, so significant that they don't need to show off in that way anymore, they see it as more childish in a way, also there's that whole issue in our society currently where designer brands (forgotten which one specifically) are pretty much mocking the poor/homeless with manufactured ripped up and dirty clothes made to seem like a new fashion statement, so i think the fact that it's desirable is entirely plausible, also perhaps worded badly but not specifically that skinny is perfect, but that they can mould and manufacture every part of themselves to be the picture of health, the picture of wealth, they can be so certain in this identity as well that they don't need to perform for it
