New userscript just dropped! 🎉

AO3: Custom Favorites replaces AO3's built-in "Find your favorites" section with your own shortcuts to anything on the site — filtered searches, authors, collections, bookmarks, whatever you actually go back to regularly.

The native section only lets you follow a single tag with no filtering at all, so I built this to fix that. Save as many links as you want, reorder them, edit them, give the section a custom title, etc.

If you're someone who has like fifteen different filtered ship searches you keep coming back to... this one's for you lol

I'm back with a new userscript! This one was born out of my compulsive need to switch site skins throughout the day.

AO3: Skin Switcher lets you change site skins from anywhere on AO3 without losing your place. The skins are sorted alphabetically, and there's a home button in the top right corner that takes you to the site skins page.

There's also an Edit Mode, which is useful for site skin makers. Instead of activating a skin, it redirects you to the skin's editing page.

Installation

Get Tampermonkey (works on Safari / iOS, Chrome, Firefox).

Install the script from GreasyFork.

Under 'Userscripts' in the navigation bar, select Skin Switcher.

So this is something I've wanted for a while—a way to sync userscript data across devices. My Advanced Blocker blocklist on my phone and PC staying in sync. Works I collapse with Quick Hide on desktop staying hidden on mobile. No Re-Kudos history carries over everywhere, etc.

It works with any AO3 userscript that uses localStorage. You just pick which keys to sync, connect a Google Sheet as storage, and you're done. Your data stays in your own Google account, syncs automatically, and you can manage everything else directly from AO3.

It is not plug in play, be sure to carefully read the set-up instructions on GreasyFork.

Huge credit to escctrl's Import & Export Script Storage for the local storage management and UI, and farin's FicTracker for the sync architecture.

Idk how but I keep finding new ways to mess with AO3! This script replaces the favorites section with a custom one. You can link to basically anything—not just tags. For example above I link to:

Unlike the normal favorites, the links can include filters and search options. This has saved me a loooot of time.

IMPORTANT: "Quality Score" measures reader engagement (kudos-to-hits ratio adjusted for length), not the quality of anyone's writing. A lower score can reflect genre trends (i.e. omegaverse fics tend to score lower), smaller audiences, or a dozen other things unrelated to how good the writing is. This feature exists to help you, the reader, privately prioritize your reading list. That's it. Do not share scores on social media, send them to authors, or use them to rank or criticize anyone's work. In fact, don't discuss them with anyone at all. If I see this feature being weaponized against writers, I will unlist the script without warning.

So I've been working on this for way too long and it's finally ready to inflict upon the world ✨

AO3: Reading Time & Quality Score is basically two tools in one:

📖 Reading Time Bar - Shows you exactly how long a fic will take to read based on word count. You can customize your reading speed and it color-codes short vs medium vs long reads. You can optionally show reading times for chapters as well.

⭐ Quality Score Bar - It's a smarter kudos/hits ratio that actually accounts for fic length and word count. No more long fics getting punished just for existing, and no more rewarding authors who split chapters into tiny pieces.

By default, it hides the score bar on fics with less than 50 kudos as to not judge prematurely (you can customize this). You can even normalize it so the best fic in your fandom gets treated as the "perfect 100" baseline, which makes comparing easier.

Both features are completely independent - use one, use both, whatever you want!!

NOTE: The stat icons in the pics come from my Rose Pine site skin or Stat Icons with Hover Text (or any really any ZerafinaCSS skin).

Installation:

Honestly this started as a "quick weekend project" and then I spent way too much time fine-tuning the math and menu. But hey, now we can all make slightly more informed decisions about which 200k slowburn to start at 2am!

I'm trying to resist the urge to tinker with it again because it's already so pretty… It kinda feels like modding Skyrim—you spend so much time modding that you never actually play the game. 😭

Also, I cannot sing enough praises farin's AO3 Fictracker. You can use custom tags to highlight and hide works, plus track your reading progress. It's completely replaced the Mark for Later feature for me—I use it to fade out works I've already finished and add custom notes to remember where I left off reading. Seriously, go check out that amazing script!!
