This is more of a modern!au Maekar headcanon but sometimes he wishes that he had been the one to die instead of Dyanna because he thinks they would have been better off with her as their only parent rather than him.

In reality, they both would be been struggling in different ways. Dyanna's death took away a lot of the joy of the family. She was the gentler, spontaneous parent. In the other scenario, to Dyanna, Maekar was the family's rock. He is what made life feel stable that they could do silly things. Things just spiral out of control without him.

Together, while obviously not perfect parents, they helped each other to be good parents and without the other, it falls apart.
