Under Armour Opens in SM Megamall
You may have seen this logo sported by celebrities like Nina Dobrev, Shay Mitchell and Taylor Swift.
It's also been worn by characters in movies like Captain America, The Blind Side, Million Dollar Arm and The Fast & The Furious.
Seemingly resembling a rounded letter H, it's actually the letters U and A intertwined, and it stands for Under Armour. When founder Kevin Plank, a football player, graduated from college, he created shirts that absorbed sweat better and gave prototypes away to his former teammates that were playing professionally. He went on to give merchandise to celebrities so they would be seen in them.
Thanks to great product design and sheer marketing genius, Under Armour has gained prominence not just among athletes but in the fashion scene as well. A few months after they set up shop in Bonifacio High Street (the first in Southeast), the performance footwear and apparel brand opened their new store in SM Megamall. The launch was graced by celebrities and athletes alike, including Fil-Am One FC fighter Brandon Vera and US Olympic Volleyball Team member David McKenzie.
Brandon introduced the Armour Assault, a series of intense fitness challenges (bear crawls, sit-ups, box jumps and dumbbell lifts) organized by fitness advocacy group WOD Nation. The former WEC 13 Heavyweight Grand Prix champ urged participants to perform their best and reminded them that their greatest competition is themselves.
Among the fitness enthusiasts who joined were pro football player Armand del Rosario; actors Carlos Agassi, Paolo Paraiso, Luis Alandy and inaugural winner of Survivor Philippines JC Tiuseco; Agila Pilipinas Flag Football Player Luke Jickain; model/athlete Jon Hall; and martial arts enthusiast Will Devaughn. In line with Under Armour's "I Will What I Want" women's campaign were the female participants: actresses and hosts Bubbles Paraiso, Roxanne Barcelo, LJ Reyes, Issa Litton and Maria Persson. Jon Hall and Maria Persson were awarded First Place with Carlos Agassi and Roxanne Barcelo as runner-ups.
