ALINA CHAIDEROV @alinachaiderov Exhibition: Fugue State @antoinelevi Antoine Levi gallery is proud to announce the opening of its new venue at 34 rue de Turbigo from June 4th 2020, with Alina Chaiderov' solo exhibition Fugue State. Space, time, memory and body are the preferred fields of investigation of the Swedish artist of Russian origins. Her sensitive and fragile sculptures or installations are fixed within a conceptual tradition, asserting a vigorous material presence, drawing on Chaiderov's own souvenirs so to highlight - through the prism of her selfrepresentation – an atmosphere, a wider historical, social and cultural background. The exhibition opens on a scene appearing to be the remit of an alchemical process suspended in time: at the centre of the gallery space a box springs electroplated with copper, resting on black Ceylan tea, personifies as much the material memory of the goods hidden under the childhood bed of the artist in Leningrad, as a conductor of dreams raising over the ashes. On the wall one finds a dark wooden shelf modestly crafted in the shape of a customary iconostasis for the ostentation of a honored icon, bearing a laboratory glass vessel holding a tea that has been lengthily brewed turned into chifir, a psychoactive effects beverage - a mental evasion medium in Soviet prisons. Alina Chaiderov employs these images of personal care through sleep and drugs so to illustrate the states of transition and fugue. In the exhibition, the domestic and familiar objects are dissociated from their uses and from their senses.
