ok ppl talked about the smallpox line already but was anyone else extremely thrown off by the line about jewish people in the barbie movie. like did i fucking imagine that or.
tbh it cranks the 'conspiracies are all insane and goofy if you think about them for more than three seconds' up to a ten and just rolls with that, to the point that nobody could take it seriously unless they're actively TRYING to ignore the satire yk? Definitely a few yikes moments, but not as bad as I expected! The humour isn't everyone's cup of tea, but nothing's given legitimacy, which I like (also I think some of the cast + writers are Jewish? It would be nice to have more POC writers tho)
ah cool that makes me feel a lot better about it. don't think i'll be watching it myself coz often that genre of irreverent adult cartoon can just go a bit far under the protection of it being a traditionally children's medium so yeah...
like bojack horseman does it well- and then there's family guy yk?
Saw someone say that the visible portrayal of Spock with green blood is antisemetic because of the Jews - goblins antisemitism. Because his Vulcan heritage and Jewish heritage come from different sources I’m not sure if that line of reason holds up or if it’s a case of people going overboard with “cancel culture”.
I’m not Jewish so any insight anyone wants to offer would be super cool. If I’m being ignorant just lmk, education is a life long journey.

It doesn’t matter what your opinion on Israel/Palestine is, pretending that Asia and Africa aren’t connected by land is,,, the hottest take I’ve ever seen. Like even flat earthers don’t claim that.
"Google define Sabbat/Sabbath (more of an English translation really). No, not a witches' gathering wait what--?"
Wikipedia really wants to go "no, no, it's not Antisemitic, you're just overreacting" and yes yes I know, don't use Wikipedia as a source however it's... usually decent at being able to springboard off it (well depending on the topic).
Many of the diabolical elements of the Witches' Sabbath stereotype, such as the eating of babies, poisoning of wells, desecration of hosts or kissing of the devil's anus, were also made about heretical Christian sects, lepers, Muslims and Jews.[30] The term is the same as the normal English word "Sabbath" (itself a transliteration of Hebrew "Shabbat", the seventh day, on which the Creator rested after creation of the world), referring to the witches' equivalent to the Christian day of rest; a more common term was "synagogue" or "synagogue of Satan"[31] possibly reflecting anti-Jewish sentiment, although the acts attributed to witches bear little resemblance to the Sabbath in Christianity or Jewish Shabbat customs.
The fuck do you mean possibly? No shit it's a reflection of anti-Jewish sentiment. I don't get how you go "ah yes this term used predominantly to refer to a Jewish cultural practice has been appropriated to refer to 'evil demon-worshipping witches and when they meet up in their witchy circles' and not think 'yeah okay this is antisemitic'".
And neopagans, witches, and wiccans (who already have problems with appropriation, especially appropriating Jewish things) are still using the term sabbat!?! Tf? You all literally have "The Wheel of the Year" stick to that!!
Some Wiccans use the term sabbat (/ˈsæbət/) to refer to each festival, represented as a spoke in the Wheel.[4]
And it takes five seconds to search it and find instances of this on Tumblr.
