because of the paralleled dialogue between the van scene and his coming out

then (as per the Cyrano trope) he would have only just realised the feelings he has projected onto El actually came from Will

all of the words that made him feel loved? all Will, it was always Will

and Will essentially says the crush didn't mean anything, and Will is the one to say he and Mike are friends, so at this point Mike's whole world is pretty confused (but like it's the final battle, what's he supposed to do?)

and that might explain why he looks so awkward in the van when touching El's arm, and why he is only just suddenly worried about El in the finale, and why he keeps longingly staring at Will, and why he can't touch Will (nervous after finding out about all of the feelings) and why he can't tell her El he loves her (friends don't lie), and why he holds her like that

If El was a guy would you believe it? If Will was a girl would you see Byler? If you can prove Mileven through using camera shots and framing, props and parallels then sure, but the only reason so many people believe it's so perfect is because you want everything spelled out for you and it's the easy answer.
