There's genuinely something so freeing about listening to music on an MP3 with no adds or subcription service. Just good old fashion 2000s/2010 vibes of you own the damn music and you get a device dedicated to one thing. Not a phone. It's a seperate thing you can't get distracted on TicTok or emails. For gods sake, its not even a video you can watch. We all need to start owni g what we do, not the futuristic borrowing we call subscriptions.
Okay, if you DESPISE subscriptions like me, imma show you how to buy the single issue, AND own it forever!
So, I noticed that the "Buy PDF" button on GlobalComix is really small, gray, and is not easily noticeable. Imma remind you that buying digital comic book is STILL POSSIBAAAAAAAAAWWWWLLLLL there.
It's really simple, I promise, just follow my steps:
While reading, call menu by tapping/clicking on the center of the screen
Find this liiiiiiiiiitle gray button shyly hiding in a corner:
Tap this button, and then proceed to pay your preferred way.
That's it! You got your PDF copy of one of The Web issues.
And you get to keep it FOREVER. Even if I decide to delete comic from the face of Earth for some reason, whether it be editing, adjusting, or just because.
Make sure to check out The Web comic book. It's really cool (like, there are big shiny robots, likeable characters, and backrooms-ish vibe, how cool is that?)
And yes, all issues are available for buying, and I will ALWAYS have this option. Okay, byyyeeeeeeeeee!
I wonder if video stores will make a comeback.
Honestly it's so satisfying to rip mp3s off my CDs onto my phone and my mp3 player. What makes it more satisfying is I've owned several of my cds for at least 10 years. It's nice to play my music and not brace myself for an ad or pay a subscription to hear the music ad free.
I originally got rid of my Spotify subscription because I wanted to save my money and minimize my subscriptions. I'm never going back because I don't like spotify's politics and I don't like subscribing to access to music. I honestly think subscriptions to music and media is being developed to be addictive like social media and smart phones. I think it encourages overconsumption of music and flattens music culture.
Back to a positive note it's just nice that I'm using CDs I picked out at thrift store a decade ago. I started buying cds because one of my favorite musicals, Jekyll and Hyde was missing five songs on the streaming services. I had some petty cash as a middle schooler from mowing so I bought a used copy on Ebay. I still have that copy along with other albums.
Some of the albums I found at the thrift store ages ago
Michael Jackson - Bad & Thriller
Rolling Stones albums
Paul McCartney- memory almost full
Les miserables 10th anniversary
Man of La Mancha
Chess in Concert
I was partially inspired by how my uncle owns all his music on his phone and has it backed up on cds and a hard drive. He doesn't play for a subscription.
Anyway I recommend leaving subscriptions services. It's freeing to know I don't owe some big company money every month.

Hey Weather Channel, why the fuck do I need an account for your app? Why do I need to 'pick my interests'? Its a WEATHER APP, ffs I'm just trying to see how much ice my city is expected to see
spotify: "do you want to be able to listen offline, with no ads or interruptions and infinite skips?"
me: "yeah actually"
ID: a photo of a black Nintendo DSi, with the DSi sound app open. it is playing an unspecified song by Mayday Parade. end ID.
