           ‘ hey, i just wanted to say sorry for tracking mud all over the place. you wouldn’t believe the kind of day i’ve had. ‘ no one ever said monster hunting would be easy and her dirt-coated gear and face were a sign of how much she’d struggled taking not one but two giant creatures down. some hunters were graceful. she wasn’t one of those hunters.

The immediate dismissal has Will pausing, then frowning, then turning away. In his mind he thought he was helping, offering his hand to her after she’d stumbled and fallen out of one of the rooms of this... God, he doesn’t even know what to call this place, but he knows it makes his stomach turn.

But the words she gives him makes him realise perhaps doing anything would be a wrong move regardless of intention. So he swallows instead.

“I would if I could,” Will says, and while he pulls his hand back he doesn’t rise from where he’d fallen on one knee to speak to her. “But I’m not here as a visitor.”

No, he’s here for some ritual to be performed when the moon is high in a few days’ time, but even as he thinks it-- and even as he thinks of Barbossa and his crew of thieves and murderers in their skeleton shapes and nightmare forms-- somehow he doubts the woman in front of him would believe him if he said magic was real.

He winces as the ice pack touches his eye. Her stern look telling him to shut it before he opened his mouth. But it’s almost a compulsion that he tries still to say he’s fine. 

“ It’s just a little black eye. “ He argued. The crack in his cowl suggests it might be worse than that. But to him, it’s hardly something that registers anymore. “ I’ll be fine. “ He hissed as her eyes only narrowed, scolding him with lesser words than he could even utter. Handing him the pack of ice as she turned to the tray of essentials Alfred had brought in for the cut on his cheek too. 

“ Okay. And a cut…” He murmured, just tilting his head to let her get on it. “ I know you’re worried but I’m fine. “ He’s said fine three times already. He wonders when it will start to lose its meaning.

Luke frowns.  He’s thinking of Leia-- He can’t imagine how difficult it could have been to be taken seriously; for Leia, for Gaea, for so many others.
