The idea that Mei basically just being introverted could be a sign of autism is actually pretty offensive.
Red Fox of Fire, based on something I asked in my question to today's Answerman: "Then we have series with characters who I believe show symptoms, with recent examples such as the casts of Haganai and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, Mei Tachibana of Suki-tte Ii na yo, and especially Mashiro Shiina from Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo..."
I realize now why some people are arguing against me. It's the wording I used. I thought I was mainly talking about Asperger's Spectrum Disorder in that sentence, but what I wrote implied that I was accusing these characters of having Autism instead, especially since I talked about Autism in the previous line. I meant to say many of these characters I listed have symptoms related to Asperger's, while Shiina is a prime example of Autism. Mei Tachibana is incredibly high functioning and only shows a few signs in comparison to some of the others.
Now, the reason I wrote the question in the first place was mainly because I myself fall on the spectrum and wondered why many series get close to using it as a main topic and never do, like Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo and Haganai, the latter featuring characters I feel like I can relate to, since during high school I ended up becoming friends with the "social outcasts," with our own sorta "Neighbor's Club."
