I hate how hard it is to convey gratitude when answering comments. You say āthank youā and it gives off a little girl in pig tails be a good girl for mummy now and say thank you vibe, while really itās more of a āhereās my car keys and also my right kidneyā kind of gratitude.
kind of a petty complaint, but it makes me sad when i write really long comments and then authors don't respond! like, i'm sure they still read and appreciated it, but it's still kinda :(
Yeah, i know the feeling. Weāve had that conversation a while back (here), and a lot of writers in the notes said that they feel awkward answering just aĀ āthank youā, or they only answer if thereās an explicit question, or they didnāt even know that some writers answer comments.Ā
So, tons of varying attitudes towards it, and i certainly donāt want to make writers feel pressured to acknowledge comments. My suggestion to writers was to leave a chapter/ending note to make clear that even if they donāt answer, they enjoy the comments, so i know itās not a shot in the dark.Ā

I feel like you and anon are both thinking of very different rice cakes hence the confusion. One is the dry flat round ones made of like, puffed rice, and the other is the gnocchi-textured soft ones??? I think?? Easy to confuse by name, at least in my area the soft ones aren't common at all so i went ????puffed rice??? too as a first reflex lmao
.....You're also talking about very different rice cakes too....I believe youāre referring to these western dry af with no flavour rice cakes:
So gnocchi are chewy and plump delicious potato pasta:
Okay let me sort this out, with what I'm actually referring to are Asian rice cakes. There's many kinds from Indian, Chinese, Korean, Taiwan, Japan, basically all around Asia. The premise of all the Asian rice cakes are chewy in texture. They all use glutinous (sticky) rice flour and water to be made, whereas the Western kind fries the rice to get it puffy and then shapes them together.Ā
The ones that I'm referring to are the Taiwanese/Chinese kind:
There's mochi which is the Japanese kind but Westerners are more familar with it as a dessert rather than a savoury item but it's made in the same way by pounding glutinous rice flour with water (though for the sweet kind you add sugar of course).
And there's the Korean kind which you can easily find from street vendors selling Tteokbokki:
Hope that makes sense, there's hundreds of different variations of Asian rice cakes (lots of regional specialities). Gnocchi and ASIAN rice cakes are very similar in texture.
FFVII Remake vs Crisis Core anon again. I'm not sure if my wording was ambiguous but the "unfinished" part of the "last stand" meant the look of the remake's scene when comparing it to the Crisis Core version. I understand that the remake will change the plot due to changing the fight's ending but still, I wish the prettiness I saw in the CC version was also in the remake as well. I feel that the latter didn't carry the former's visual "it" factor despite the tech improvements over the years.
Ah I see, Remake version is an abridged version of the CC version, we didn't get to see the lead up of Cloud and Zack in the truck, Zack carrying Cloud to the rocky area, Zack rubbing Cloud's head. This lead up is quite important imo, it gives a sense of finality and emotional weight to the scene.
Remake cut and spliced certain scenes, it was missing that lead up also geographically speaking Remake actually placed Zack much closer to Midgar (you actually see Midgar right behind Zack) whereas in CC he was still quite a ways away (you don't see Midgar behind Zack).
Also for Remake we're just suddenly shown that scene so there's less sense of finality and emotional weight. I'm inclined to believe the scene was used mainly for slowly building the concept of Alternate timelines/universes rather than for emotional/visual impact.
The sharp contrast in colour tone and brightness that we see in Remake is also a factor, visually it's stunning and clear cut giving a feeling of there's more to come a tone of continuity.
For CC the colour scheme is more neutral grey overall and less bright which to me gives a more dream/past memory aesthetic for what we see on screen.
