Part 26

Nurse Bonnie: pov It's very late at night, I quietly enter Annie's room to check on her and her vitals. I give her more pain meds since her arm is going to hurt. I don't want to wake up Ryan McQuaid who is sleeping in the bed with her, the chair he has been sleeping in isn't comfortable at all.

Nurse judy: pov I'm doing my morning rounds, lets see how Annie is doing, the night nurse said she did good last night and she was breathing better. looks like Ryan is up, I administer her heart meds, nausea ones and her immune system ones. I have to wait for Dr. Carpenter to give her the other medicine. I need to check her arm to see how it's doing and if she still has the rash.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I quietly get up out of bed and sit in the chair next to Annie's bed so i’m not in the way while nurse Judy checks her arm. me getting up must have woken Annie, she is trying to use her left hand to rub her eyes but it's not working right and the movement must have made it hurt because she made a sound that sounded like she is in pain, her right hand is in the splint thing, so she can't use it.

Nurse judy: pov her rash looks like it went away which is great, I need to unwrap her left arm to see how it looks. Her arm looks bad, on top of being bruised it's a little swollen where the IV was yanked out. As I touch the injured area Annie yelps in pain it must hurt a lot. I need to rewrap it but Dr. Carpenter should be here in a few minutes and I want him to look at it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov nurse Judy is leaving Annie's arm unwrapped temporarily. Can she have some pain meds?

Nurse judy: pov sure, I'm holding the antibiotic because she had the rash. I'm waiting for the Dr in case he wants to change something else on top of the antibiotics besides her regular meds.

Dr Carpenter: pov hi Annie and Ryan, I just need to check on you to see how you are doing before I look at your arm. The stethoscope is going to be cold, take a deep breath, very good lugs sound clear which is great. Dr Simone should be by in a bit to look at your throat to see how it's doing. Now onto your arm it looks badly bruised and swollen. Does it hurt when I touch it?

Annie walker: pov es.

Dr Carpenter: pov It could be starting to get infected as a precaution let's give her some different antibiotics since she broke out into a rash yesterday. How's the nausea?

Annie walker: pov etter ince he ave e one eds.

Dr Carpenter: pov that's good to hear. You have an echocardiogram in a bit. Nurse Judy, can you draw her blood so we can run labs and check for infection. Also can you take her temperature.

Nurse judy: pov a little elevated but still within normal range.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Dr Carpenter i wanted your opinion on something when Annie gets out I'm going to set up a dentist appointment with my dentist for her because she hasn't been in a while. Will that be okay or does she need to see a specialty dentist.

Dr Carpenter: pov I think yours should be fine. Oral health is important especially for someone with her medical history, she is more prone to infections and dental diseases with her weakened immune system. There is something I want to mention to you Annie, your file doesn't list a recent mammogram only your last one and that was years ago.

Annie walker: pov i grab my pad and pencil and write, yeah I was off the grid for a bit then I got diagnosed with Myocarditis and never thought to make an appointment.

Dr Carpenter: pov with your scar tissue on your chest you are at risk for developing certain conditions that can occur in scar tissue it's better to play it safe and get a mammogram and other special tests.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I can make an appointment for sometime after she gets out.

Dr Carpenter: pov good. She will also need to see a physical therapist and speech therapist. She can start speech therapy while she is in the hospital and possibly physical therapy. If Dr Simone says it's okay then she can start speech therapy today.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that's great news, can I speak to you for a second in the hallway.

Dr Carpenter: pov sure.

Annie walker: pov Ryan and Dr carpenter head to the hallway to talk about something. I’m so frustrated I just want to be home and not stuck in a hospital bed.

Ryan McQuaid: pov my brother brought this up and I wanted to ask you about it. Do you think Annie could ever have children? Not that I know if I want any, I haven't even talked to her about it I just wanted to know if it is a possibility for her if she wants that..

Dr Carpenter: pov with her health at the moment I don't think it's a good idea, know if she had the valve repair that might change things but I won't know. She will need to see a fertility specialist or high risk obgyn to make sure everything is working fertility wise because even if she can have kids it doesn't mean her body can handle it. At the moment I would be very careful making sure she doesn't get pregnant.

Annie walker: pov I ave o ee.

Nurse Judy: pov it looks like Annie has to pee, thankfully Ryan just stepped back into the room so he can help me get her to the bathroom. Can you help me get Annie to the bathroom before the pain meds kick in?

Ryan McQuaid: pov sure no problem.

Annie walker: pov my left arm is killing me. Ryan and nurse Judy help me out of bed and towards the bathroom she is pushing my iv pole with the monitors on it.

Part 25

Ryan McQuaid: pov I helped Joan hang up the strip lights she bought, I'm glad you like the desert. I hear the door to Annie's room open, it's nurse Judy.

Nurse Judy: pov hey, just her to check on Annie's vitals.

Ryan McQuaid: pov how is she doing, i can see her breathing is still labored. looks like Annie is starting to wake up.

Nurse Judy: pov I need to check her rash to see how it looks.

Annie walker: pov I slowly open my eyes and notice Ryan and Joan talking to nurse Judy.

Nurse Judy: pov the rash is looking a little better, her breathing is still not 100. How are you feeling, Annie?

Annie walker: pov eepy and chy.

Nurse Judy: pov that's common for benadryl to make you sleepy afterwards. I can talk to Dr Carpenter and see if you can have some itch cream for your skin, while I'm gone would you like an ice pop it will help with the swelling in your throat.

Annie walker: pov es

Nurse Judy: pov what flavor would you like.

Annie walker: pov lue.

Nurse Judy: pov that sounds like blue, i should be back in a few minutes with Dr Carpenter and your ice pop.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I heard you weren't feeling good and left the restaurant early.

Annie walker: pov ou idn't ave o o hat.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I wanted to and my brother said I should be with you. I finished my dinner and came here. I got you a dessert, but with you throwing up I don't know if you should eat it.

Nurse Judy: pov here is your blue ice pop.

Dr Carpenter: pov I hear you're still itchy let's see if I can help with that. Since a bath isn't really an option in a hospital. I think her best bet is a cream/lotion. I check her vitals while I'm here. Let's push some nausea meds. I need to listen to your breathing, it's still labored.

Nurse Judy: pov I can put the cream/lotion on.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie is now lathered in cream/lotion. Let's hope this helps.

Dr Carpenter: pov can you squeeze my hand with your left one. Her left hand is definitely having issues compared to the right. I think with some physical therapy it will get better.

Nurse Judy: pov would Annie like something light to eat.

Annie walker: pov es

Nurse Judy: pov how about some apple sauce and jello that light on the stomach.

Annie walker: pov ounds ine.

Nurse Judy: pov I will be back in a few minutes with your food.

Annie walker: pov i write you can leave if you want Joan, you don't have to stay because of me.

Joan: pov it's fine Arthur is watching Mack they are having some father son time. How about after you eat I paint your nails. If you don't want to, it's fine.

Annie walker: pov I write on the paper that actually sounds nice I don't have someone to paint nails with. Plus when I was with the CIA I didn't have painted nails. They would have stuck out too much and I was trying to keep my cover intact.

Ryan McQuaid: pov nurse Judy is back with Annie's food I'm going to have to feed it to her. Let's try the apple sauce first, then the jello. She is temporarily switched to the nasal cannula kind of oxygen

Joan: pov would you like to watch a movie while you eat.

Annie walker: pov ure.

Joan: pov I got one earlier, hope you don't mind watching a girly movie Ryan.

Ryan McQuaid: pov not at all, I slowly spoon some apple sauce into Annie's mouth. Her cheeks are still a little red. Once she is done with it I open the jello which is green, nurse Judy said the red ones would make her vomit red if she had to barf. I definitely don't want that to happen.

Annie walker: pov I can feel it slowly rising my barf, I'm going to throw up.

Joan: pov Ryan it looks like Annie is about to throw up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I quickly get something under her chin as she barfs it just won't stop coming, everything she just ate came up. Joan hits the button for the nurse, I can tell Annie's stomach is really bothering her she has tears running down her face.

Nurse Judy: pov as I walk in the room I notice Annie throwing up, I push the button so another nurse can come help me. Once in the room I tell her to go get Dr carpenter.

Ryan McQuaid: pov i’m rubbing soothing circles on Annie's in hopes it helps calm her down. Her breathing is heavy as she throws up and her heart rate is a little elevated.

Dr Carpenter: pov hi Annie I hear you aren't feeling so good. Nurse Judy let's push more nausea meds, heart ones and more benadryl. I also want her back on the oxygen mask, The antibiotic she was given causes nausea and stomach pains which is what she is feeling. I stopped giving her that antibiotic because she broke out into a rash. She should be feeling better by tomorrow.

Joan: pov now that you are done vomiting what color nail polish would you like on your fingers.

Annie walker: pov i write on the paper maybe light yellow, I think that would look pretty.

Joan: pov the finger nails on her right hand are going to be a little harder to get to with the splint thing on, so her IV doesn't get pulled out. Can you put your left hand flat on the table so I can paint it? I realize I'm going to have to help her move her hand.

Annie walker: pov my left hand is all painted now it looks good. Joan tells me to put my right hand on the table. It's already flat because of the awful splint thing. I just have to wait for the nail polish to dry.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Hey Joan if you want to leave you don't have to stay, now that the movie is over Annie looks like she is getting sleepy. I doubt she will be awake any longer.

Part 24

Joan: pov the nurse is helping Annie in the bathroom once she is done I help her get back to bed.

Nurse Judy: pov I need to check your vitals and your arm to make sure there is no infection, you said she is itchy. Her face is definitely a little splotchy.

Joan: pov I got you your favorite smoothie Annie, why don't I hold it for you while you drink it that way the nurse can look at your arm.

Annie walker: pov I on't eel od y mach s ering e.

Nurse Judy: pov sounds like she said her stomach is bothering her.

Joan: pov you don't have to eat it if you don't want to. Sounds like she said I do want to eat it. Nurse Judy mentions Annie's vitals are good, but her oxygen levels are a little low. She is unwrapping her arm. I notice it's splotchy and so is her other arm. I ask the nurse if it's normal. She says it's probably from the antibiotic

Nurse Judy: pov I need to check your chest to see if it has a rash on it too.

Joan: pov Hey slow down you can't drink it all at once with your stomach upset, all of a sudden Annie throws up everywhere it hits the bed and her pajamas.

Nurse Judy: pov she needs to be cleaned up but first I would like to call her Doctor's see what they want to do because it looks like the antibiotics gave her a rash and upset stomach.

Dr Carpenter: pov what seems to be the problem.

Nurse Judy: pov Annie threw up everywhere and she has some type of rash. She might need some benadryl and nausea meds. Plus her oxygen levels are a little low.

Dr Carpenter: pov let's have a look, definitely looks like a rash it could be from the antibiotics. Nurse Judy let's push some benadryl and nausea meds and see how she does. Let's up her oxygen and switch her to the mask, Annie is definitely having some trouble breathing. The vomiting probably brought some stuff up which is making it harder for her to breathe and causing swelling. As a precaution can you take her temperature. I will be back later to check on her and see how she is doing.

Nurse Judy: pov Let's get you cleaned up Annie, someone else will change the sheets. If we can get her to sit in the chair then we can get her hospital gown off safely. Thankfully it was only the gown and bed that got hit with the barf.

Joan: pov I can tell Annie feels miserable, I grab the new pajamas I got her so we have something to change her into that's not a hospital gown. I know she hates them. I remind her not to scratch her skin even though it's itchy. Nurse Judy mentions the benadryl will make Annie sleepy. I'm trying to decide if I should text or call Ryan. He said to call if anything happened to Annie, I just don't want to ruin his time with his brother.

Ryan McQuaid: pov my phone is ringing its Joan, must be important. I mouth to my brother Joan so he knows who it is calling. Hey Joan, what's going on, is everything okay with Annie.

Joan: pov Annie has a rash on her body and threw up, plus she is having some trouble breathing. Dr Carpenter gave her nausea meds and benadryl. I could tell she was just so miserable.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I can leave early if she needs me i’m almost done eating.

Joan: pov that’s okay you don't have too. She is asleep now, hopefully she will feel better soon.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I let Jeff know what is going on with Annie.

Jeff McQuaid: pov it's okay if you have to leave early. Annie will probably still be miserable when she wakes up and if you can comfort her and make her feel a little better then that's a reason to leave, at least finish your dinner first.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will. When the waiter comes back around asking if we want dessert I ask for it to go and pay the bill. I make sure to order Joan and Annie a dessert with mine.

Joan: pov Ryan just texted me letting me know he is back at the hospital. I had all these fun things to do with Annie but couldn't do, because she didn't feel good.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I quietly open the door to Annie's room and enter, Joan texted me saying she was still sleeping. Hope you don't mind I got you a dessert.

Joan: pov wow thank you so much. After updating him on Annie's condition, I ask him if he had a good time with his brother.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Yeah it was nice hanging out with him. We got to talking and he brought up the fact that my sister is pregnant with her 3rd and if It made me think about having kids. With Kelly I didn't want kids then and she did then she got cancer and couldn't have any. Cancer took that choice from her being a mom. I definitely don't want a repeat of that, I still don't know if I want kids or if Annie does let alone If she can have any.

Joan: pov sorry you had to go through that with Kelly.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I wanted your opinion on the whole children thing, my brother thinks me and Annie for peace of mind should see if we can or can't have children.

Joan: pov I don't know, finding out you can't have children is awful thankfully me and Arthur didn't have any of those problems a friend of mine had fertility issues with multiple miscarriages, after years of trying she has a healthy baby now. Your best bet is to talk with Annie about this, if you want I can give you the number of my ovgyn.

Ryan McQuaid: pov not right now, you don't have to stay now that I'm here unless you want to. How's Mack doing?

Jeff McQuaid: pov that also sounds like a good idea. Hey I was thinking of learning how to scuba dive, any recommendations or advice. I know you are certified from your military days.

Ryan McQuaid: pov make sure you find a legit place to learn and to practice with flippers and goggles in your spare time.

Jeff McQuaid: pov any plans on teaching Annie how to scuba dive or does she already know how to.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I have no idea if she knows how but even if she didn't I don't think she would be able to. You can't have certain pre-existing conditions when scuba diving; it's not safe.

Jeff McQuaid: pov had no idea about that. if you don't mind me asking how did you and Annie meet.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she was working on something and our paths crossed as soon as i met her i wanted to know more about her she was very secretive at the time.

Jeff McQuaid: pov is that when you found out she had health issues.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no, are paths crossed again while she was on a work trip. I was on a boat and noticed her on shore fall to the ground. I quickly called a Dr I know in the area who met me at my safe house. He was confused about what he was treating her for at first but then Annie woke up and told him she has Myocarditis, he gave her some meds since she didn't have any due to an earlier encounter me and her had with a police officer.

Jeff McQuaid: pov wow that must have been scary to witness after everything that happened to your first wife.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it was, but it also made me want to make sure she was safe. After that we became closer.

Jeff McQuaid: pov I can see you really love her.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I do.

Jeff McQuaid: pov do you ever wonder if you're repeating history by dating Annie because she has health issues and so did Kelly.

Ryan McQuaid: pov you do have a point, I never noticed it before. Me and Kelly had our life planned out, then she got sick. With Annie I thought she was cute and wanted to get to know her, then she revealed she had medical issues and I just wanted to learn everything I could about it to make sure Annie was okay, her condition is dangerous if left untreated it can cause damage.

Jeff McQuaid: pov the way I see it Kelly lost her battle with cancer and I think with Annie having a medical condition you are trying to make up for Kelly's death by making sure Annie is well taken care of health wise.

Ryan McQuaid: pov you might be right in a way.

Jeff McQuaid: pov By the way what did the Dr say, will this cause any long term issues.

Ryan McQuaid: pov besides the valve damage from her Myocarditis which will need fixing at some point, they think Annie will need a little physical therapy since she was off her feet for a bit and possibly speech therapy. I order the steak and lobster while Jeff orders the ribs with fries.

Jeff McQuaid: pov she has valve damage?

Ryan McQuaid: pov Yeah, they are keeping an eye on it making sure it doesn't get worse.

Jeff McQuaid: pov what happens if it gets worse.

Ryan McQuaid: pov they most likely would replace it instead of repair it.

Jeff McQuaid: pov is there a difference between how they would go in to fix a valve or replace it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov i’v looked it up, it's pretty much the same surgery just instead of fixing the valve it would be replaced, there is a risk that with the valve being replaced the body might regret the new valve.

Jeff McQuaid: pov that does not sound fun at all.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it's not, that would mean more complications and possibly more surgeries.

Jeff McQuaid: pov with her possibly needing surgery that must be scary especially for her.

Ryan McQuaid: pov definitely, plus she doesn't want to have another surgery.

Jeff McQuaid: pov wait, she's had surgery before?

Ryan McQuaid: pov yes.

Jeff McQuaid: pov where did she have surgery before?

Ryan McQuaid: pov on her heart, she had severe chest trauma from a shooting her and her then boyfriend who died were making dinner when a woman snuck in and shot them. Annie had 2 bullets in her chest and her boyfriend died. The lady snuck out the back door so it would look like Annie shot Simon. At the hospital after the emergency surgery, the woman who shot them snuck in as a Dr and tried to kill Annie by putting a pillow over her mouth. They had to use the paddles on her.

Jeff McQuaid: pov that's insane did they ever catch the woman.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she's dead didn't want to surrender.

Jeff McQuaid: pov I guess she deserves it but definitely an easy way out. Doesn't have to sit in jail after she caused all of this, Annie must have flashbacks or ptsd from it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I have no idea she has never mentioned it to me and neither has Joan.

Jeff McQuaid: pov after a few minutes our food arrives and it looks amazing

Joan: pov looks like Annie is up now, hey how are you feeling. Her cheeks look a little splotchy.

Joan: pov he left to hang out with his brother, Ryan didn't want to bother you since you were asleep. I think she said her arm hurts, it's still numb and she is itchy. I have to hit the nurses button in case she has to pee. Do you have to pee?

Annie walker: pov es.

Nurse Judy: pov you hit the button for me.

Joan: pov yes Annie's arm hurts and she said she is itchy plus she has to pee.

Ryan McQuaid: pov nerve damage how serious is it?

Dr Rosen: pov right now it's too early to tell, it could be temporary or permanent. She will definitely need physical therapy for it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I grab my phone and call my brother since i’m already in the hallway and let him know the results of Annie's scans and X-ray.

Jeff McQuaid: pov so does that mean you are coming.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I guess Joan convinced me.

Jeff McQuaid: pov hey I meant to ask before but didn't want to intrude, you have not mentioned Annie's family once. Does she not have any or is she no contact with them because if I was in the hospital I would want my family to know.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I actually don't know if she has any, Annie has never mentioned them to me nor has Joan and she would know that info. I can ask her right now actually. I quietly sneak back into Annie's room to talk to Joan, hey can we head into the hallway I don't want to wake her up. I can see Annie through the door while I talk with Joan.

Joan: pov is everything okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov her head scan looked good, her arm one showed possible nerve damage and her X-ray looked good.

Joan: pov Nerve damage do they know if it's temporary or permanent.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no, that's not why I want to talk to you. Do you know if Annie has any family, she hasn't mentioned any to me the whole time we have known each other. and my brother said if he was in the hospital he would want them to be called and it got me thinking about if she had a family and if she does why weren't they notified that she was in the ER.

Joan: pov it's complicated, as you know Annie faked her own death to catch a bad man with the help of Calder and eyal and then went dark for a bit. I left it up to Annie if she wanted her sister to know she was alive and Annie kept saying it was safer for her sister not to know. Auggie was the one who notified her of Annie's death.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that's rough. But shouldn't she have a right to know her sister is alive.

Joan: pov yes but that's Annie's choice.

Ryan McQuaid: pov with her health being bad I think she should tell her sister she is alive.

Joan: pov yes, maybe you can convince her. I think her sister should know she is alive.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I head back into Annie's room with Joan before I have to leave. I hear the door slowly open, it's Dr carpenter the nurse must have told him Annie was asleep.

Dr Carpenter: pov Annie is definitely asleep, In a low voice i mention that i just wanted to check on Annie, see how she's doing. Her vitals look much better, tomorrow she has an echocardiogram scheduled.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I brush Annie's hair out of her face with my hand and kiss her on the forehead. I tell Joan to call or text me if anything happens. I make it to the restaurant in good time and find the booth my brother is sitting in.

Jeff McQuaid: pov hey, you made it how's Annie?

Ryan McQuaid: pov Pretty much the same, she was asleep when I left. I didn't want to wake her up.

Jeff McQuaid: pov the waiter asks us if we would like to order something to drink while we look at the menu. Yes, a beer.

Ryan McQuaid: pov soda is fine for me. I don't want to drink anything because I have to go back to the hospital after this to be with Annie.

Jeff McQuaid: pov that makes sense. Our waiter's name is Charles, the menu has a lot of interesting food on it. Ryan has been here before, he is the one who picked out the place. Hey Charles do you happen to have non-alcoholic beer?

Charles the waiter: pov yes I do, would you like that instead of the alcoholic kind.

Jeff McQuaid: pov yes, can I also get one for my brother.

Ryan McQuaid: pov didn't even think of that as an option

Jeff McQuaid: pov now we both can have a beer and not worry.

Ryan McQuaid: pov how's the family been.

Jeff McQuaid: pov great, can you believe it leighanne is having another baby.

Ryan McQuaid: pov when she told me I was so happy for her, I talked with her on the phone recently. I wish I could spend more time with you guys but with work and Annie's health it's hard to find time.

Jeff McQuaid: pov Remember that time we went camping as kids and a bee climbed into your sleeping bag.

Ryan McQuaid: pov yep and I killed it with my bare hands and leighanne fell into the lake trying to stand up in the canoe because a bug was crawling up her leg.

Jeff McQuaid: pov I miss camping, we should definitely get together and go camping again.

Ryan McQuaid: pov i’v been wanting to go, I know Annie would love It but with her health that might not be a good idea.

Jeff McQuaid: pov wouldn't hurt to ask her Dr's about it. Leighanne’s been talking about taking the kids camping for a while, but now that she is pregnant it would have to be after the baby is born and it's it's little older. Have you ever thought about having kids?

Ryan McQuaid: pov Kelly wanted kids and I didn't then she got cancer and that was off the table, I haven't thought about it since then.

Jeff McQuaid: pov have you talked with Annie about it to see if she wants kids.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I haven't brought it up because I don't know if she can have any.

Jeff McQuaid: pov sorry I didn't think about that. Just for peace of mind, is there any way to find out if you or Annie can or can't have kids, because there are probably some good obgyn doctors nearby. I just don't want you to miss out on having kids if it's an option. you can probably ask leighanne for a good recommendation.

Annie walker: pov y rm eels unny.

Ryan McQuaid: pov what type of funny?

Annie walker: pov ike t's ingling.

Dr Rosen: pov annie can you move your fingers for me, good girl. I don't like how they are moving. She probably injured a nerve. I think I'm going to call down and see if the scan room is open as a precaution, she has one scheduled for tomorrow anyway. I will be back in a few minutes.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Looks like the scan room is open, Joan says she will stay here in the room, she wants to call Arthur anyway to keep him updated. An orderly is here to move Annie's gurney to the scan room, I follow beside the gurney/bed holding her hand.

Joan: pov I pick up the phone and call Arthur to let him know what happened. Hey Arthur.

Arthur: pov are you calling because you miss Mack already.

Joan: pov no, Annie fell and pulled her IV out.

Arthur: pov is she okay.

Joan: pov not sure she is getting scans as a precaution right now, she said her arm felt funny might be some minor nerve damage. Ryan came out to the parking lot to help me carry some stuff up while Annie was still asleep and she woke up and tried to go to the bathroom by herself.

Arthur: pov why didn't she ask the nurses for help she is not allowed up on her own.

Joan: pov I don't know you know Annie she is stubborn, after being shot by Lena and having major surgery she went after her before she was 100 percent. I realized then she wasn't asking me if she could go after Lena, Annie was telling me she was going after her. Which was very dangerous on her part.

Arthur: pov i figured she wasn't 100 percent when you told me she went after Lena. I can't believe she was that reckless.

Joan: pov Maybe if Annie hadn't rushed her recovery she wouldn't be in this spot.

Arthur: pov that probably didn't help but Lena shooting her caused all of this.

Joan: pov I know you're right, it's wrong to suggest Annie did anything to cause this Lena did. I'm glad she is dead.

Arthur: pov i’m going to have to let you go Mack just pooped his diaper and I think it's up his back.

Joan: pov you better take care of that. I will update you when I have more info.

Ryan McQuaid: pov while I wait outside the scan room I call my brother to let him know what is going on. Hey Jeff just wanted to let you know I might be running a little late. Annie fell getting up to go to the bathroom while I was out of the room for a second helping Joan carry a few things up to the room. I thought Annie was sleeping

Jeff McQuaid: pov is she okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she pulled her IV out during the fall. At the moment she is getting some scans done to make sure everything is okay.

Jeff McQuaid: pov if you can't make it, it's okay we can reschedule for tomorrow or I can stop by the hospital and bring some food.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will update you in a bit if I can make it or not. After a bit Dr Rosen reappears with Annie, he says an orthopedic Dr is meeting us in the X-ray room, he called and it's available right now. Annie can barely keep her eyes open. i can tell she is fighting to stay awake, sweetheart it's okay to sleep if you need to. She finally gave in to the pain meds and fell asleep.

Dr Joshua: pov I'm waiting for Dr Rosen in the x-ray room. He has a patient that needs her arm X-rayed. He explains everything to me including her medical history and cardiac history.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I'm allowed in the room with Annie since she is asleep Dr Joshua is x-raying her arm differently. It should only take a few minutes, then we can head back to her room.

Dr Joshua: pov I'm not seeing anything on the x-ray only a big bruise, the area should be iced. The orderly is taking Annie back to her room.

Joan: pov After a bit the door to Annie's room opens, it's an orderly pushing her gurney/Bed back into place.

Ryan McQuaid: pov hey Joan, annie is all finished with her scans they even managed to take an x-ray of her arm. Dr Rosen should have the neurological/arm scan results soon, the orthopedic Dr looked at Annie's x-ray and didn't see any broken bones. Which is good news.

Joan: pov I think we should drink our smoothies. Annies should be okay till she wakes up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov It's so hard seeing her like this. I have to call my brother in a bit and update him after Dr Rosen speaks to us. Nurse Judy left the room after checking Annie's vitals to get some ice packs for her.

Nurse Judy: pov I got 2 ice packs for Annie if we wrap them they should be fine, the first one is for her arm and the other for her upper arm. All of Annie's monitors are on her left side except her IV which is now on her right side. 10 minutes is enough time for the ice packs after that they can be removed.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will set a timer then that way I will know when to take the ice packs off. Any update on the case.

Joan: pov not much, still haven't figured out why the guy targeted her or why he was killed and who killed him. The timer is going off which means it's time to remove the ice packs. I can't believe Annie slept through that. I know you are worried about Annie but you should really hang out with your brother.

Part 20

Ryan McQuaid: pov Joan just texted me that she is at the hospital, and has smoothie and other stuff to bring up. Since Annie is still sleeping I head downstairs to help Joan carry everything up. I'm carefully carrying the tray with the smoothies in my right hand.

Annie walker: pov as soon as my eyes open I notice Ryan isn't in the room. I wonder where he went, as I'm laying in bed I notice that I have to pee. I know I'm supposed to push the button for help but I'm tired of needing someone's help. I can probably make it to the bathroom by myself, I don't need anyone's help. As I stand up I notice my legs are shaky and unstable, I push the IV pole/stand forward that has all my stuff on it with my left hand and take a few steps forward that is when i realize my legs are giving out and I'm about to hit the floor on instinct I try to grab onto the pole with my right hand also to steady myself better but wind up pulling on my IV very painfully as I fall over knocking the IV pole with the stuff on it over.

Ryan McQuaid: pov On the other side of Annie's door I can hear a loud thump. I quickly push the door open and notice Annie on the floor, her iv pole is knocked over. I put the drinks on the table while Joan hits the nurses button, I tell her to go to the nurses station and ask for her Dr's. I rush over to Annie to make sure she is okay. Let's hope she didn't have an episode and fall over. I see some blood on the floor and her left arm. She must have pulled out her IV as she fell over. She definitely looks startled. I ask her if she is okay. Annie says ot re. Did you have an episode, She says no i ave o ee. Sounds like she has to pee. you know you're not supposed to get out of bed without help

Annie walker: pov on't eed elp.

Ryan McQuaid: pov you definitely do need help, you heard what the Dr said you're not supposed to get up by yourself. I'm afraid to touch her in case she is injured. Nurse Judy and Annie's Dr's run in the room asking if everything is okay.

Joan: pov No, McQuaid was out of the room for a few minutes while Annie slept and she got up and tried to go to the bathroom by herself when she isn't allowed to do it alone.

Nurse Judy: pov I can tell she needs a new IV. Our main priority is making sure she isn't injured and the bleeding from her pulled out IV is stopped. I’m going to keep putting pressure on the spot while Dr Carpenter checks her out.

Dr Carpenter: pov first things first lets fix her nasal oxygen tube then get her on the bed so we have space to work, Dr Rosen can you carefully help me lift Annie on to the bed. We need to make sure none of her other wires got pulled out. I check her heart rate which is a little elevated, I will give her some meds once the new IV is in. I readjust her wires.

Dr Rosen: pov i’m just going to check and make sure Annie didn't make her concussion worse with the fall. Everything looks okay, but I'm going to keep an eye on her closely. She might have a headache later due to the fall agitating her concussion. She has scans tomorrow, but i might move her scan up to tonight

Dr Carpenter: pov her arm should stop bleeding soon, Annie can you tell me if anywhere else hurts. If it's easier you can point with your right hand. Looks like she is pointing to her left upper arm. It definitely looks like it is starting to bruise. It might need to be X-rayed. Nurse Judy let's check and make sure her accidentally pulling out the IV didn't cause any damage to her arm.

Nurse Judy: pov I have Ryan McQuaid put pressure on the spot that is bleeding while I put in a new IV. I’m going to have to use the back of Annie's right hand for the new IV spot. We already used her right arm when she first came in, after a few days we switched to her left arm. I know she is going to hate it. Once the IV is in I tape it good, then i have Dr Rosen help me by holding her right hand flat so I can put the arm board/TLC splint we use on children and adults who pull out their IVs on there hand I then wrap it up and put tape on it so it can't be pulled out, it also makes it hard for your hand to move.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie is going to hate where the new IV is placed. Her left arm is still bleeding.

Annie walker: pov I don't like where the new IV is placed and my left arm is killing me plus I'm so upset that I fell.

Nurse Judy: pov Let's take a look at her left arm, that looks awful. It's already turning black and blue with some purple in it. Let's clean the area and see how bad it is, then we can wrap it and put some ice on it. It's pretty swollen already. The ice should help with the swelling.

Dr Rosen: pov since I don't think the fall caused her concussion to worsen I will clear her to have some pain meds because her arm is going to be killing her, they might make her sleepy.

Part 19

Jeff McQuaid: pov I'm on my lunch break eating and wanted to know if you wanted to hang out later today it's the last day of my business trip but I might be able to extend the trip a few days if you want.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I would love to hang out later. It's been hard with Annie in the hospital. I don't want to leave her side because she needs so much help at the moment. That's up to you if you want to extend the trip.

Jeff McQuaid: pov how about dinner tonight that way we can catch up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that sounds good I will have to see how Annie feels first, it shouldn't be too hard to get someone to visit with her while I'm gone I can probably ask Joan she would probably love to have a girls night with Annie. After hanging up with my brother, I call Joan on the phone. Hey, are you free tonight. My brother wants to hang out.

Joan: pov and you don't want to leave Annie alone, I understand and yes I'm free Arthur can spend time with Mack.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Auggie is here right now because I had a dentist appointment.

Joan: pov Arthur mentioned something about it this morning as he was leaving the house.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie could use some girl time, she got her hair washed this morning since her stitches are out and a sponge bath.

Joan: pov can you ask the Dr's if she can have her nails painted and use a face mask.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no problem. I'm back in her room with my food, Annie is asleep. Hey Auggie, I just wanted to let you know Joan is coming by later to hang out with Annie and have some girl time. My brother wants to hang out with me and I don't want to leave her alone.

Auggie: pov you could have asked me I would have stayed.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I know Auggie but there might be other days when I need you. Plus you have been here most of the morning and I didn't want you to think you had to stay longer. Why don't you take Tasha out to dinner while you are here.

Auggie: pov after chatting with Ryan for a bit I decide to head out early since Annie is asleep.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I get up from my chair and grab my laptop that's in my bag so i can catch up on some emails. Once I'm done with that I turn the TV on and make sure the volume is low, while channel changing I land on some survival show that looks interesting. I would love to take Annie camping in a tent or cabin but with her health it's a big risk and I'm not sure if I want to take that risk because if something happens to her It might take a while for help to get to her.

Joan: pov McQuaid said he talked with Annie's Dr and it's fine for me to paint her nails and put a face mask on. As I'm leaving my office I stop by Calder's to let him know I'm leaving a little bit early to visit Annie, McQuaid has plans with his brother tonight.

Calder: pov can you let annie know me and everyone in the cia are trying to figure out who orchestrated this and why she was targeted.

Joan: pov will do.

Calder: pov do they know when she will be released from the hospital.

Joan: pov no idea, she is still on oxygen but doing better her speech is still slurred. She might need speech therapy on top of physical therapy if it doesn't improve.

Calder: pov by the way Eric Barber has been asking how Annie is if you have a few minutes can you update him.

Joan: pov no problem, I can do it right now if he is in his cubicle.

Calder: pov yes he is.

Joan: pov great i will stop by on my way out.

Eric Barber: pov hey Joan, everything okay.

Joan: pov yeah Calder said you were asking about Annie so I came to update you on my way out.

Eric Barber: pov thanks.

Joan: pov she is doing better her concussion is improving she is still on oxygen though, her speech is still slurred and hard to understand at the moment the weird eye thing that happened most likely was a side effect of the medication they gave her the tests ruled out seizures and strokes which is awesome. She will need physical therapy and possibly speech therapy when she gets released and before you ask I have no idea when that will be.

Eric Barber: pov I'm glad she is doing a little better, she really scared me I thought she wasn't going to make it.
