This image was unpublished and shows Gunning next to Buddhist sculptures wearing a red chiffon evening dress by Susan Small. For this Vogue assignment in India, Norman Parkinson and Gunning were also accompanied by model Barbara Mullen (b. 1927) who appears in other shots from the series. • Gunning began her career as house model for Sybil Connolly before gaining fame for her cover appearance on Life magazine’s 10 August 1953 issue, photographed by Milton H.
