I know I'm always saying my life feels like a Derry Girls episode, but this HAS to be the most Derry Girls shit ever.
My sister, cousin and I went to a concert (or attempted to) yesterday, our aunt was with us, trying to help us get tickets outside the venue since it was completely sold out. Turns out those leeches the resellers had them for triple the original price, auntie was ready to throw fists for us, one of the resellers almost hit her with an umbrella and it was a hot mess. Long story short we couldn't get tickets, so ofc we didn't get in and our last resort was to stand in our tiptoes all night against a fence to watch the whole thing with all the other 100+ people that also didn't have tickets. Meanwhile, our aunt was waiting for us in the back, seated on a bench.
For a bit more context, we're currently under martial law, so basically cops and soldiers ready to attack everywhere. Mid concert, armed soldiers tried to kick us out since we didn't pay to watch (???????), a cop threatened to throw tear gas AND THEN LAUGHED ABOUT IT. It didn't escalate and they let us stay.
Half an hour after the altercation, people were still getting in and/or trying to find tickets. Then, out of fucking nowhere, the three of us see OUR AUNT, who wasn't supposed to go to the concert and was only there to help with the tickets, getting in with a random guy and escorted by a cop π We were, honest to god, so so so sooooo dumbfounded bc wdym the only one of us who had little to no desire to get in was the only one who got in FOR FREE and it was our 54 year old aunt ππππ

this crossbody is lowkey more like a fandom billboard than an actual bag
the suicidal urges maddie kim felt upon learning her (dead)boyfriend got her pregnant at 15 hours before dying fall short to whatever the average ecuadorian is feeling rn
I come from a small village almost forgotten by time and geography in west central Ecuador, a small village on the verge of being lost to gang violence and organized crime, a small village of hardworking people and dreamers who never lose their hope. Yesterday, a young boy, Pedro Vite, born the same year as me and in the very same village, raised in the neighborhood next to mine, made history as one of the key members for defeating Germany (an overall world power and four times world champion) in what, we believed, would be Ecuador's last match in this World Cup.
I'm not a person who's particularly invested in football or soccer, but amidst the dark times this country is going through and this awful grief of mine, this victory has brought some of our joy and hope back. Going out to streets to celebrate, the noise, the euphoria, the strangers hugging each other, the collective happiness and the sense of community of it all, actually made me cry tears of joy. I lost my sweet Nila Sol to cancer a little over a week ago, and I wish with my whole heart that she could have witnessed all of this, but sometimes life is not fair.
This beautiful country is full of talented people everywhere: the rural areas, the most impoverished areas, the areas none of our authorities cares about because most of the population is Afroecuadorian just like the two boys who scored those two goals; and all of them deserve to not be criminalized by the state because of race or class, and also deserve full support from the government that's claiming this victory as its own and decrees a national holiday because of that victory after doing absolutely nothing for the past years.
Anyway, thank you guys for bringing some hope back to this country.
