congrats! sorry about the typos that escaped your notice tho that sounds SO FRUSTRATING. but yeah my email's the same and i'd love to read it--a lot of it will probably go over my head tbh but it sounds fascinating
isn't it just? though knitting a hat sounds so complicated lol, i never graduated above "rectangle" in knitting school. you are right about the origin of that title, although of course because it is a revisitation there is a rather different take on it (it is one of my favorite stories from that collection!)
does it center around the sister who wound up speaking toads?
so far the hat hasn't given me trouble--i'm using circular needles, which means it's already round. the complicated part--or i guess the part i'm concerned about--is that i'm going to have to drop stitches towards the top of the hat. which i know how to do, but i'm going to have to keep a much closer count of the rows and stitches and i also have to use the Dreaded Maths on it because i'm at a different gauge (stitches per inch, as well as rows per inch) than the one in the pattern. i also get to learn how to use double pointed needles (you make a square with them and spread the stitches across all four needles, is my understanding of it) for once your hat gets too small for the circulars! I THINK I MADE IT SOUND MORE COMPLICATED THAN IT IS

i imagine “toad words” comes from that one story umm is it called diamonds and toads? the one where one girl helps a witch in disguise and every time she speaks gemstones and flowers come out of her mouth and then her sister demands a similar treatment and gets like snakes and toads? or maybe it comes from somewhere else?

yeahhh basically pretty busy lately, although i did read ursula vernon's short story collection "toad words" which was fairly good. colorful lipstick is like the best thing in my life rn lol, i would say vidyagaemz but my thesis indirectly involves vidyagaemz so i couldn't stop thinking about it if i tried haha
i have definitely heard of ursula vernon but i don't remember who recced her to me. either way i. have not gotten around to reading any of her stuff i haven't read anything other than fanfic in a good while because i am Bad.
bold colorful makeup is such a good look imo. i love when people do both colorful eyes and lips at the same time and work it. mostly i've seen it with like blues and greens and it's always so striking

OOH THAT IS!!!! A REALLY GOOD IDEA. sometimes a friend will tell me about the esoteric sexybits of some earth animal or other and it is always a delight, i bet i could get lots of (potentially hilarious) inspiration from there!
(i feel weird about talking about 'inspiration' with regards to genitals to attach to various alien characters for fanfictioning purposes but there you have it.)
