YOOO YOU WATCHED DANDADAN!!!!!!! … how was it? (Also there’s a new season of the anime coming up next month!!)
I watched it because my sister and her fiance were going to see the movie tomorrow and I wanted to see it as well since I have the day off so I binged the first season.
And gonna be honest, probably not the most popular opinion, but the only character I actually like is the pink haired girl.
The two main characters get real annoying real quick. There's times where the psychic could have used her powers (or even should have) but didn't and the personality shift of the boy with the curse gets old and annoying to me.
I am also very much not a fan of miscommunication tropes. It's fine if it happens in a funny way or just a little bit, but it happens SO fucking much in the first season alone. I know they are teens and all that, but it is really annoying to watch still.
The only character I like, like I said, is the pink haired girl. I liked her little arc and her powers she gets. Her personality shift in her powered form isn't that annoying and she goes through a nice little character growth.
I fucking hate Jiji (Gigi? don't know how to spell it). He's fucking annoying. My brother-in-law read the manga and I asked if he gets better and he said no. So he is not someone I think I will enjoy unless he gets some really cool powers or something.
When the scenes are action, it's great. I love it! Or even the emotional parts where it's more calm. Amazing!
It's when it goes back to the "normal" lives that it gets pretty annoying for me.
Also I wish the grandmother looked older. I get it's a funny gag (maybe there is actual reason for it that will be revealed later) but I'd prefer it if she looked older. I've seen some redesigns of her looking actually like a grandmother/old lady and they were amazing!
That's all I really have to say about her. Other than her personality being shit because it FEELS like she doesn't like her granddaughter, but I actually don't mind that so much. I can tell that is just how she is and she's not around so much that it gets overly annoying (and you can actually see the care she has for the granddaughter coming through in her actions).
Oh yea, I also got annoyed when the psychic just stopped wearing the special clothes from her grandmother when going against Turbo Granny. Like she was specifically given clothes to help in the fight and give her protection, and instead of wearing it as a precaution she chooses a short dress instead.
I just find it kinda annoying how she is always in these skimpy clothes (though a lot of the time she is in her own house at the end of the night so fair enough, it's the during the days out of school and out and about that gets annoying). I know that's just how the anime/manga are portraying her as a girl compared to the guys, but still. It's annoying see it so much.
Not to mention at the end of the season when she's in the hot spring, I find it annoying how she didn't just use her powers to push those guys away. We as the audience know they aren't just some normal humans, or have something else going on, but she doesn't.
To her these are normal human men. Shitty, awful, men. But human men. She doesn't even TRY to use her powers until they are literally 2 feet away from her. She should have been shoving those guys away immediately, or trying to make them trip, or SOMETHING.
I get she was scared, but her flight or fight response is almost always fight. Barely is it flight or freeze (and even if it was freeze she usually kicks into fight fairly quickly), so she should have been pushing them away as soon as they started getting closer to her.
There's just a lot of stuff in this anime that I don't care for or don't even like. I'll continue to watch it because when it's good, it's good. But it's not something I think I'm gonna be obsessing over other than certain scenes.
The animation is really good though! Love the funny faces and the details it has in the show!
