#animation school

So during the first bit we got over the basics, did a bit of learning the ol' Twelve Principles of Animation and some general exercises ^^ here's a hammer throw we were asked to animate for a day, I uh, I was a tryhard about it (because I'm a tryhard about everything I do) so I added a little twirl and a jump whack to it, which was very fun to do

And here's a little walk cycle! Funny story about this one actually, at the time I didn't have a Wacom tablet to plug into my computer (I hadn't bought one yet and the software didn't allow for connecting via iPad), so I just did a quick mockup of a stick figure and did a walk cycle with him haha

So basically I did this walk cycle with a mouse :}

(Don't worry this was the first and last drawn animation where I drew via mouse, thank god)

Then there's this little expression test-- so from my character profile, I was asked to get two expressions from my expression chart and make an animation where the character is transitioning from one emotion to another, and in-between the transition with smears. Feel free to guess the smear haha

Now uh, fair warning, I didn't finish this one so if it looks cursed, that's why ':}

So this was a rotoscoping assignment where my mentor's sister filmed herself turning around, and we had to rotoscope her in. This was also me experimenting with how to draw snouts in a 3D environment where perspectives are mobile have to be taken into account so uh, enjoy that attempt at that haha

The idea was he's vibing, but then peepaw William Shortpaw goes all "GRANDSOOOOONNNN" on him, and he slow-turns in his direction like "... hi grandfather ':]"

And here're just general effects animations and a bit of rigging in Toonboom (that is a thing, complicated as shit but it is a thing ':}), I didn't really understand the fire one hence me not really cooking with that one but it's fine

I assure you, I got good :}

Also fox tails ARE effects how dare you suggest otherwise /j /silly

So did you know that 3D animation is supported a little bit on Toonboom? No? Well it is! It's very limited especially compared to Maya, but it is a thing! You can even use it to draw dynamic shots with the camera moving (I haven't messed around with it much tho), but here're some things that involved that and nodes. So, so many nodes.

Firework and Laser were the most challenging from what I can recall. Yes, it was because of nodes. If you're wondering what nodes are, think of them like layer effects, but they can be animated and specific parameters for the effects can be set up. Which makes them even more of a pain-in-the-ass to set up :D I have friends who, in our final animation, tried to use Toonboom-rigged puppets for their animations and by god they had so many nodes going into their layers it genuinely looked like an eldritch abomination manifesting in a tangled mass of wires ''':D

(For the record, I did not make the stock summoning circle and the Cardcaptor Sakura staff, that was just a resource we were given to use for this

And then there was our midterms assessment.
