Hey there, I've been trying to recreate my Gemsona Tiger Eye, due to myself really disliking my old design. Do you have any ideas I could use to really make them a bit more Steven Universe-y, and realistic to the gem itself? I already have the personality down, and the gem location (the left eye, I couldn't resist), though I'm totally stuck on everything else, including the weapon and dance. Thank you in advance!
Weapon: a previous suggestion we’ve made for tiger’s eye was:
Shield, broadsword or claymore (protection), clover-shaped OR coin-shaped axe or hammer (luck, prosperity), fan, club resembling a telescope, or an incense-themed flail (just because the enemy can’t see through smoke doesn’t mean you can’t; visual clarity)
dance: it’s hard to suggest something without knowing their personality, and admittedly this is the most difficult aspect to advise without any knowledge of dancing on my (mod N’s) part. The best I can give is something akin to the unique dancing choreographed in the musical “cats” (google results seem to suggest that style was made specifically for that play, but is influenced by jazz)
general advice: the show uses soft shapes, toned and pastel colors, and intense expression to communicate its message, and so the same can be reflected in your character. Sharp edges are reserved for dangerous, unknown things, or even for Homeworld, which is rigid and saturated- and their environments extremely desaturated to emphasize the lack of life there. If you use softer colors and shapes and greater expressions for Tiger’s Eye, then you should be just fine. Also, it may help to consider keeping the detail amount lower, but isn’t entirely necessary- that’s more of an animation preference than a show detail, but in the case of character presentation, sometimes less is more.
